Davo's right, it's usually the products that are leaving the white dust. You might want to invest in more than one brush and alternate to keep flakes to a min and you can usually dip your brush under warm water as doth said unless instructions say not to wash brush.
That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)

But seriously though, normally those flakes come from whatever product you use being caked up inside of ur brush over time. Here's a tip. Every night after ur done brushing run very hot water in ur brush to keep product from building up inside the brush. In the morning ur brush should be completely dry.
