bmail is board mail. like if you wanted to ask me or another person personally only that person would read it. it's like e-mail. since it's on the board it's bmail.
Wow, everyone's so friendly! I've pointed my boyfriend in the direction of the braiding website. What's a b-mail? I don't have very good dexterity in my hands, they are very small and I only have 4 fingers on one hand and 3 on the other. I can reach my hair with my sharter arm (the one with 3 fingers) for very short periods of time but I can't hold it up for long. I have no thumbs too which makes it quite hard. Thanks for the useful ideas and links. Becca

With regard to an updo that can be created using one hand, I have just spent the past 10 minutes trying to do this. I was successful in putting an Alice Band into place but could not manage a ponytail or bun while sitting up straight. Are you able to bend forward from the waist to a position where you can use both hands to form a ponytail on the back of your head?
I have seen ponytail /braid/chignon making devices in “Claire’s Accessories” in the U.K, but have never used them. Has anyone here had experience using these – please let us know if they would be appropriate. Becca, it may be an idea for you to go to a Claire’s (or similar) and ask if they have any devices that you could try before you buy. Also, the HairBoutique Market Place stocks a French Twist kit, which is something your boyfriend could help you with. Here is the link; http://mp.hairboutique.com/details.asp?ProdID=1049
You might like to B-mail the HB boss, Karen Shelton and ask her advice. Karen is a very knowledgeable and helpful person – I am sure she would be able to find some appropriate devices for you.
Do you like braids? If so, and your boyfriend is willing, here is a site that has step-by-step instructions:
Hi, I have longish hair, it comes to about my waist. I also have a disability which makes it very hard for me to do my hair, I can only reach the back of my head properly with one hand. While I lived at home this wasn't a problem as my parents could help but I have now moved out and my hair is causing a real problem. Lots of people have suggested having it cut, but that's not something that I want to do. Does anyone have any hints/tips/special devices which could help me tie my hair up? Or any easy step by step hairstyles that my boyfriend could master? Sparkles, Becca
hi becca welcome to the board! the people here are awesome. you sound alot like me. even almost the same screen name! i also can't use my hands that well and my hair is to my waist. my mom still helps me but i'm married now. my husband helps now too. just teach your boyfriend the basics like i did my husband. first teach him NEVER brush wet hair. use a wide tooth comb. have him start from the ends up. get some pretty scruchies and have him put it back gently. my husband learned how to flat iron my hair for special occassions. if you have any more questions just ask me. don't let your disabilty discourage you from having long hair
