Update: In case anyone is interested, I did a strand test on Wella Color Charm 10A+30vol, 12P+40vol and 12P+40 vol with a splash of Blonding Plus added. Oddly enough, all 3 formulations gave me basically the same result, which was a nice non-yellow level 9-10 highlight. Since I couldn't see a difference in the color, I just used the 10A+30 vol to highlight myself with a cap this morning. I ended up with a subtle, non-streaky, non-yellowy overall lightening which was just what I wanted. I will definitely experiment with bleach or other colors for lighter bits in the summer, but for winter this is perfect!
My old hairdresser (who now works 6 hours away!) was kind enough to give me the formula he used for my highlights so that I could try to recreate the color at home. The problem is that he used Goldwell color and I only have access to Wella Color Charm (permanent) currently. I'm trying to figure out what I could substitute to come up with a similar look. Here's his formula:
Goldwell Oxyplatien with 20 vol
Goldwell 10P with 30 vol
Goldwell Blonding cream with 40 vol
My hair is probably a level 7 blonde, ashy/neutral in tone. The above gave me great results that weren't too yellowy or golden. I'd like to recreate it but leave out the lightest color (for a more subtle winter look - I add in the lightest pieces in the summer only). I was thinking of using Wella Color Charm 10A in place of the Goldwell 10P, plus either Color Charm 12A or 12P for slightly lighter pieces, and leaving out the bleach altogether (because I assume the bleach/oxyplatien is what produced the lightest streaks). I guess I would use 30 vol for the 10P and 40 vol for the 12? I will strand test first of course, but does that seem like an unreasonable formulation? Has anyone used these colors before? Better suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!
