i checked out sally beauty supply yesterday and they had silky strand and paris hilton extensions. i don't know how good either of them are. i read some things in this forum that said silky strands tangle a lot but i'm afraid of ordering online because of color match. anyone know anything about paris hilton extensions? or maybe sally carries another brand that they were out of. i do intend to talk to the stylist some more before getting them done.

I know plenty of women who've had sew-ins and had no damage and experienced lots of growth from them. I would call her and ask her about the whole process. I could be wrong, but I believe the synthetic is for the braids and then she'd sew the human hair onto the braids

i know so little about it. this is new for me, but i'm guessing she doesn't want to damage my hair so she is going to use synthetic to start the braid, and then braid the human hair to that. i'm going to check out the bohyme and do some more research as i don't want to take these things out only to discover i have to cut my hair again because of damage.

Not exactly, not all hair is created equally, it depends on the brand, I don't know what kind Sallys has or its quality..
Hmm I wonder why she wants one of both, normally for a full head sew-in 2 packs of hair is required. I'd ask her if she'd want you to get synthetic braiding hair for the braids, they come without the wefts so its just hair.
As for the braiding, you should be fine as long as the braids aren't too tight

she told me to buy on pack of synthetic and one pack of human hair. we have a sally here and i've looked at them. i'm guessing the more expensive the better they are? i want them cut back to about collar bone length and layered all over. kinda shaggy. i'm just concerned about the braiding. i don't want it to damage my hair. i only wanted to leave them in until i grew my own length back.

It sounds like its going to be a sew-in and its common for stylists to use synthetic hair when braiding up your hair..since your hair is thick, I guess she's adding the hair so that the braids would be longer?
Will she be providing the human hair extensions? Or are you going to buy them? Also make sure she knows what you're looking for: the style/length/color..bring a pic of a style/look you'd like your hair to look like if you can't describe it all that well.
i will remember 2008 as the year that i got 2 really bad haircuts, from the same person. in march, she cut my hair really short. i have naturally curly hair that goes all the way to the root, but from the crown forward, my side swept bangs are straight. i also keep my hair bleached white. anyway, i told her how much i hated the hair cut and not to ever cut it that short again. i let it grow and in nov. i went back and she did the same thing again, only this time cut my sides too, and cut it above my ears. i came home in tears. she also bleached the top again and made the back a dark chocolate brown. i was alright with that, but to top it off she put a hot pink streak right across the front where by bangs are! i am fixing to be a new grandmother and i was horrified. i love changing up my style and color but this was too much. i looked like a 10 year old getting ready for halloween. i waited a few days and after 2 shampoos the pink wasn't budging. i called her and said this was unacceptable and she would have to take the pink out. i went back the she applied chemicals, really stinking chemicals to try and get the pink out. after several attempts, she said she had done it and looking in the mirror it looked like she had. i mentioned damage and she said she would sell me a tube of conditioner. no, i did not buy it. she should have given it to me. again, i came home in tears and ordered some good conditioner online. it has helped becuase it was fried in front. after several weeks i tried to touch up and it was just breaking more. i left it alone for 3 months and just yesterday went to a different person i had used before to let him even it up. needless to say it is still short at my neckline and i have now considered extensions. i popped into a salon and talked to a lady about having them done. she does do them and she told me to wait a couple of weeks and condition really good and then call her. i am going to do that and also try to put a light shade of blonde toner on my hair as i am now sick of the white blonde. my question today is, she said she would use synthetic hair to braid to my real hair and then use human hair extensions. she sews them in i'm assuming. i don't want really long hair, just enough to have below my chin, about collar bone length. i would like some feedback from people who have had this done. i guess i'm scared of more breakage, but she looked at my hair (i am blessed with really thick good hair) and said it would be doable. what do you think? i hate this short hair so bac, i've been wearing my baseball cap just about every day.
