Is your dark hair color treated or natural? If it is natural dark color, then it will be easier to lighten your ends while color treated hair it might be more difficult but possible. You probably need to ask for all over highlights that includes lightening your ends. It sounded like they didn't put in enough foils to lighten up everything in your hair. All over color is great if you want one color but more frequent retouching your roots. It depends on the salon you go to because they tend to use highlights as a way to make you come back again and again by going lighter gradually. All over color is possible but they will look at your hair and will go with what is best for your hair.
It is color treated. I had did glazes for a long time but then I had some highlights done. I'm thinking that they're giving me highlights to lighten my hair gradually without damage? Highlights have never really done much damage to my hair.
I don't mind re-touching every few weeks. I just want to avoid damage. I went through a lot when I was silly and just decided to straight bleaching.

Conditioning is important after the lightening process. There are some very good professional conditioning treatments that will get your hair back in its normal state.
The product used to lighten your hair depends on how dark your hair it, the texture of your hair and how light you want it to be.
Wouldn't that be damaging? I really don't want to have damaged hair like when I was just bleaching it :(. It's taken me way too long to get back to a healthy state and have long hair.

I'd really love for my hair to be all one color. Grrr.. it's such a long process! Plus if I covered my whole head in foils I'd be looking at like $300 just for color!!!! I couldn't afford that every 6 weeks.

Sure, why not? I think foils look a little more natural than covering the whole head straight with color from a box. And if you use high lift, supposedly it won't be as damaging as bleach. If you use 20 vol developer instead of 40 vol there will also be less damage...

Hey girl! There is definately an easy healthy way to be blonde! This is what works very well for me! I am a natural dark brown and with the following advise, I am a level 8/9 blonde! Okay go to Sallys and buy Ion 40 vol developer and 9n-90 color cream! Mix it 2oz of color to 4 oz of developer and leave on for 45 minutes! When I first went blonde, I too was having all over highlights done at the salon, well money got too tight so when my roots started coming through I went to Sallys and asked the girl there who was blonde what to do, she turned me on to this process! This color is so good for your hair!! Every 2-3 weeks I only do new growth and once a month I do roots and then apply all over for only 15-20 minutes. Every 3-4 months I paint on bleach highlights less often in the summer because I am in the sun a lot!!! I get lots of complements on my hair and the girl that cuts it can't believe how healthy it is! I do a deep conditioner once a week and use Infusium 23 leave in treatment daily!! So yes you can and it is easy!!! Good luck!!

So I'm in the proces of going back to blonde from dark hair. It's been going well so far. I just get a full head of highlights every so often. I went again last night and of course the top is really bright but the ends, not so much. My question is this.. will my ends EVER lighten up?? I mean they have a little but not by that much.
My other question is.. is there any healthy way for me to be all one color? Obviously since I'm dark at the roots I can't just pour a blonde color on or do a full bleach session. The bleach is too damaging. I tried it before and nearly destroyed my hair. And yes, it was done by a pro. Thankfully that was a few years ago so everything is back to normal now. Hence why I went back dark.
