You've put in a lot of color in your hair since you dyed it. I'm not surprised that your highlights didn't come up much lighter or more of a nice shade of blonde because of the previous dyes. With previously dyed hair, it is a little difficult to get the red/orange tones out. A color stripper or remover should have been used. It means using a tint that counteracts red/orange tones by using green or blue based dye. But leave that to the professional because it will cause further damage to your hair and the unnecessary color build up. Another way to this is going to your hair stylist again and gradually highlight your hair lighter and lighter every time you go in. Less damage this way. Best wishes to you!
Ok so my natural hair color is a dirty blonde/very light brown color. I decided to go much darker and went to a very good salon and had my hair died a dark brown with a redish tint. I went back a few times when the color would fade into a lighter orange color. Once while away at school i used a feria hair color that was similar to what i had been dying it and it came out fine. Then decided to go back to closer to my natural color. About a week ago i went to my stylist and told him to dye it a little bit lighter than my natural color and that I would hope the sun would give me my natural blonde highlights. When he finished my hair looked similiar to my natual color (but not much lighter). When outside, it looked very red/orange and I really didnt like it. Now, about a week later, it looks like a light brown indoors, but gets really orange when in the sun. I want to get rid of all orange tones and hopefully get natural blonde highlights. Is there a quick shampoo/conditioner fix or do i have to dye it? Any suggestions?
