I believe so, African American hair is sometimes referred to as "natural hair", at least so I've noticed.

Hi Everyone..
 
I'm going to hopefully be taking the Natural Hairstyling course soon. I'm wondering though, will they teach you how to do deal with different hair types?
 
I am white and have never delt with any other hair type before. I live in NYC so we cater to everyone. I want to make sure I'm able to deal with all clients!
