You can do the roots with it, up to your highlights. Then you could buy some Semi or Demi permanent for the area below the touch up and either pull the highlight bits out if you foil or avoid those, or pick a "GLOSS" that lightly refreshes the midlengths and ends with shine or color WHEN NEEDED. If the area below has no color loss and looks great there is no need to.

I am planning to try L'oreal Couleur Experte hair color. This is the color that contains the highlighting creme with it. I am not as worried about using it for the first time as much as I am worried when it comes time to touch it up. When it comes time to touch up color, the instructions say to apply the color to the roots for 20 minutes and then pull the rest of it through your hair for about 5 minutes to refresh the color. However, when I pull the rest of it through my hair, won't that color over the highlights from the previous time? I know I will have to highlight the roots, but won't I have to rehighlight the rest of my hair again since I just colored over it . I am so confused. I went to their website and read their directions for a touch up, but they don't address how to handle the highlights when touching up. Can someone help?
