Hey there Tiffany-
One person who I think could answer your questions is Metalgirl, as she has worked with fusion for a long time.
There is definitely a brand of keratin pellet that was recommended once on hairextensions101 forum, but I cant remember which one. Could be something like "Donna Bella" something.... I haven't used fusion in years so I am not too familiar with this stuff anymore.
I know Sherrie sells keratin pellets in her store too, and they must be of a good quality too.
The tipping part of fusion is very very important, if you want to avoid shedding.
I heard great things about Tiffany Twist method, check out her website, she has video tutorials, and if your Mom's issues with extensions are mostly linked to the removal process, she might like this technique, because apparently the removal part is as easy as can be.
Not a technique I have used myself, so I am not talking from my own experience, but just from the reviews I have read on the hair boards.
If you want to try an easy DIY technique for hair extensions, with pain free removal, you can give a shot to the tape or LG (or both!) technique. It's what a lot of us like to do.

My love for extensions started when my mom got them.  She had the hair dreams system put in which was gorgeous hair.  Problem she had with hair dreams was the removal process which was very painful.  It could have been the salons lack of experience removing them since they just started offering.  Also the hair dreams system was very expensive tho the hair was gorgeous.  I can't remember how long the hair dreams lasted her but my mom did buy the special hair that the salon could send off and have retipped.  Which she never did.

After the experience with hair dreams we both tried ultratress.  It was more affordable and lasted up to 3 months.  The hair was also very nice not as nice as hair dreams but still very good hair.  The problem we had with ultratress was slippage and also the removal and you couldn't reuse the hair.  The removal was very painful like my mom had experienced with hair dreams.

I then ran into a old friend who is a stylist who does extensions using I-tip hair inserted into copper links which is a cold system (no glue, and no heat).  My first problem with this was the hair itself was poor quality.  I also didn't like how the copper links oxidize on your hair (green color not much but a little).  That and the copper links are color coated and the color wears off exposing a gold color.  I felt like the links were also alot more visiable than the hair dreams or ultratress system and there was some serious slippage going on which required me to go into the salon alot for maintence.  The pro to this system was that we could move the hair up and reuse.  I did a lot of research and suggested to her tipping our own hair bc this way we could get longer length and better quality.

This was a great idea and worked great on fixing the quality of hair (have had the same hair for a year which has been retipped a few times still looks great but has gotten dry at the ends along with some dead ends at the bottom and is 24-26 inches in length) but we still had problems.  Like we had to use bigger links which I felt showed even more, still had copper oxidation prob, the color wore off links, and still the slippage requiring lots of salon visits for maintence.

So now I am going to try fusion with the hair I have been using which I think is somewhat like hair dreams system tho I am hoping for not as painful on the removal process.  Right now my mom has this fusion system in which is just pretipped keratin hair put in with a heat fusion wand.  She has had in for 3 months and has only lost 2 strands.  I am not sure as to what she had the stands tipped with but I am going to find out tomorrow.  My questions on this for all of you is:

I would like to use brown colored keratin to tip my hair so when it starts to break down I am hoping unlike the amber keratin it won't show up whitish or if this even something to worry about?  I am a #4 medium brown and don't want keratin showing.

What is the best keratin to use?  As I am not sure if the keratin that we have been using for the I-tip link system will be strong enough.  Tho I did remove 4 links and attached the I-tip hair with my heat wand and 2 of the four are still in the other 2 fell off in the shower (I didn't know then that you are supose to wait at least 24-48 hours to wash your hair).  And if that keratin that we used for the I-tip is good the site we get it from is currently out of stock... go fig!

Also for fusion on strand by strand how much keratin is enough to hold the bond?  One pellet/chip or what?  This I ask bc as of now my moms fusion is shedding very bad but like I said we don't know what it has been tipped with and the lady she had tipped it has never done before so she could have just not used enough.  My I-tip link hair hardly sheds at all bc like I said I have had the same hair for a year!

Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!
