I agree with Hawg.  You could definitely go shorter than the first one & have it look great!  Go for it!  Your boyfriend may be surprised how much he likes it.  And it will grow out again (eventually!).

I'm not sure if I want to cut my hair again or grow it out...my boyfriend hates shorter hair and my hair grows extremely slow. Right now it's around shoulder length and I cut it maybe a little shorter than my chin last August.

But regardless, I think I want to cut my hair into a shorter bob and needed some encouragement. Probably a little shorter in the back than these:
