Eeek! NEVER use a straightening iron w/ WET hair! They're designed to use with DRY hair. You'll only damage your hair horribly if you use it on wet hair.
A good product for you to try is TIGI Bed Head - Boys Toys. Use it sparingly though. A little goes a long way.
Seems to me that the first picture haircut was done using an iron or other hot tool (hot brush perhaps) mouse and spray.
First you wet your hair then put some mouse/gel in it. Brand the iron at the top of the hair and pull alternately to the front and back this will create the weavy effect.
Remember your hair has to be a bit wet if you're pulling it with the iron otherwise it may burn.
Once you get the twist of it shouldn't be a problem
Finally to finish it and add strongness to the look you use fast dry spray
ok well, my hair is brown at the min, and comes to about the middle of my eyes if i pull it down.
what i do at the min is, wait for my hair to be almost dry but slightly damp and whack some light gel all over, then i put some wax into it, problems are that it goes all puffy and doesnt look good until i wake up in the morning when its nice and sleekish and isnt dry and puffy.
i would really like to know how to stop this and also how to achive the various effects in the pictures because my hair is kinda flat n boring, + my bangs look crappy coz i dont know what to do with them, thx!
