Ryan Reynolds Uses Sebastian Clay On His Hair

Ryan Reynolds in his interview with People magazine where he was named Sexiest Man Alive said that for his hair he uses Sebastian Clay because "the guy on the movie (Green Lantern) gave it to him."

What is the difference between a clay and a gel, paste or wax?  Does anyone know the difference.  I always thought clay was for deep conditioning?  I didn't realize it was a styling product.
