Last year I decided to go to a reddishy brown from my years of bleach blonde hair!! I've recently gone back to blonde cause I've had the same fading problem! It sucks!! I found that Clairol Beautiful Collections Semi seemed to stick the best in my hair and after I dyed it I would put Warm Brown Protein filer in my hair and also use a brown shampoo & add the filler to that sometimes to keep the color lasting longer. They have a filler called Red Red. It's great stuff and I find it works better on dry hair then it does on wet hair. Also the Clairol Soy and Clairol Complements line has color intensifiers that work really well! Also use a non sulfrate shampoo and don't wash your hair if it doesn't need it just condition. Reds are the fastest fading color. Also I noticed when I had dyed my hair darker then I wanted it it would fade to the color I really wanted. Good luck try the filler first!
I have chin length hair that was formerly bleach blonde. My regular hair color is probably about a level 5 or 6 dark blonde or light brown color. I decided to do a mahogany brown/red color about 2 months ago. Since then, I have had a lot of trouble actually keeping the color fresh and less faded looking. I am using red color shampoo to try to reduce fading as much as possible, but it doesn't really seem to work that well.
The main problem is the lower 1/2 of my hair, which of course is the oldest and most damaged section. It starts to look very faded after about 2 washes. I am currently using Ion 5RV 5.5 (Light Burgundy Brown) and I like the initial color, but the faded ends are disappointing.
Is there anything I can do to keep the ends from fading? When I initially colored my hair to red/brown, I used a neutral protein filler, but it didn't really seem to help, so I stopped. It seems like the ends take color, but I am wondering if this is really a problem with using a reddish color as opposed to a brown color which would probably fade less to begin with.
