it works for some people, but highlift dyes aren't so good for dark hair it doesn't lift stubborn red pigments that well it may turn out brassy.
For cool ashy medium brown hair it would work better but not if it's a warm reddish/golden tone (naturally)

Double processing is more predictable

They have dyes at the store for dark hair! It has a higher level of developer to help with the lifting processes. You don't need to bleach then color your hair. I have natural medium brown hair lightens really well. Look for a Hi-lift color. I believe Garnier makes one? Leave it on for a bit longer than it suggest!

To achieve medium golden brown you have to prelighten the hair with bleach to yellow then apply toner. Make sure to completly saturate and cover the hair with bleach otherwise it will come out uneven.

Another easier option would be to highlight the hair and then tone, or wash the bleach out when the hair is golden (in the stage between orange and yellow)

My hair is a medium brown right now (my natural color) and I'm looking to dye it somewhere along the lines of a medium golden blonde. Nothing too bright, just sort of a honey color.

I've read around and I know most say to that this kind of transition should be done by a professional, but I was actually hoping to use boxed dyes. It would just be easier for me right now rather than going out and getting it bleached., and I'm fine with it not coming out exactly like the picture. I was wondering if getting the dye a few shades lighter than the color I want would do the trick? Or will that do something drastic to my hair?

Thanks!
