The best approach is to go darker first. If your natural hair color is a light brown then going back to brunette should be OK but just to be safe do a COLOR TEST first. Take a section of your hair that is hidden underneath or snip just a strand and color that first. Wait for it to process to see the color it will be. If the color with the Medium Copper Brown is good and you like it, you can do the rest of your head. Keep in mind that the middle and ends of your hair may absorb more color if they are more porous.
Once you get back to the brunette that you like THEN you can play with adding highlights or lowlights as a separate task.
If you bought your hair color at a beauty supply or a drug/grocery store, be sure to keep the box and look to see if there is a 800 emergency hot line with the product. If you run into any problems you may need the number. Always keep the product info handy so you can give the 800 expert the details of the product number. They often ask so you may need it.
I would def do the brunette first after you do the patch test. Let the brunette settle in and then go for the next step. if you do too much at once you could wind up with a disaster and then need to repair both the base and the highlights/lowlights.
You have plenty of time. Go slow.
If you are in a hurry for the highlights, buy a few clip-ins (they're cheap) in the color you want and just clip them into the brown temporarily to see how much of a contrast you might like. It's an easy way to help you pick out the highlight/lowlight colors. Right?
So I've gotten different answers for all of these questions. I'd REALLY appreciate some help with this, as my mom is somehow, after all the time of begging her to let me get auburn highlights, tentative that it will mess up.
I've dyed my hair blonde since 8th grade. I'm naturally dark blodne/light brown, but it's a dishwatery color.
I want to dye my hair brown and add auburn highlights. I have fair but slightly tanned skin and light green eyes that sometimes appear bluish, but not always(it's weird, haha).
So how should I do that? Should I apply the brown, wait, then put the auburn over the brown dye? Would it show? Or should I do the highlights, foil them(tips on how), then do the brown?
Also, my hair id dyed medium golden blonde, and the brown I got was medium copper brown. Is there a chance it will turn orange or something? And if I do the highlights first, will auburn turn out okay over my blonde?
Thanks!
