Looks great. Best to do one type of color at a time so it's good you waited to do the highlights/lowlights to see how the original color turned out. It will settle in after 1-2 washes.
Wow. Looks very pretty.
Generally 2 shades lighter or darker is best for highlights or lowlight. The only danger with lighter auburn is being sure that it doesn't take on an orange hue. You could go with a lighter caramel for contrast or a light milk chocolate around your face to make your beautiful eyes pop.
Why not buy 1-2 strands of cheap clip in hair in the colors you're thinking and see what looks best with your hair? Or buy a color ring...they're cheap...and play with the different colors against your hair and skin to find your ideal match.
So I just went from blonde to brown. I've been blonde all my life. Huge change, but I love it. Anyway, I was planning on waiting to see how the color turned out, then deciding about highlights. Here's me now:
What color highlights or lowlights, if any, would look good? It turned out to have a slight red tinge to it, so I was thinking about maybe getting lighter auburn highlights to bring out the red?
