There is nothing in that report or any other report that indicates Locks of Love is anything but a good charity.

Locks of Love provides wigs to financially disadvantaged children with long-term or permanent medical hair loss. Since their focus is on permanent hair loss, they don't provide wigs for children with cancer. That people get confused is irrelevant. They provide wigs for kids who need them. What does it matter if it's from cancer or not? Should they spend millions correcting that misconception?

If hair is unusable due to coloring or it being too short, it is discarded. It takes 14 ponytails to make a wig. They do sell some of the hair to finance the charity. Most charities sell items they are donated. Do you think charities use all the cars people donate to them?

They probably don't have a shortage of hair. Most people who donate to them would rather donate hair than cash. A lot of people don't have spare cash, but hair is something they can spare. I'm sure they'd appreciate a cash donation as well as a hair donation.

They don't have a big budget for a national charity. As a result, they don't solicit donations. They rely on what they get. If people stopped donating ponytails, they'd eventually go out of business.

People who love their long hair present misinformation about Locks of Love. If people are bugging you to cut your hair and donate, your issue is with those people, not Locks of Love. Locks of Love isn't bothering people. Don't blame a good charity for insenstive people.

I'm a dog groomer and use clippers all day...and long ago adopted the policy I won't do it to a dog unless I try it on myself first. Clippers don't hurt at all...they may tickel your scalp a little. I cut many of my friends hair with my clippers too and none of them have ever complained of it hurting. And none of the dogs have ever seemed to mind, even the youngest puppies.

I think what you are doing is awsome. I don't know that I would be able to take that plunge. Kudos to you!

since you planned to get your hair cut( i prefer the term cut not shave since no razor blade is used) with out clippers you will get a very short but not bald hair. the sensation is like a buzzing feeling on your head, the clippers might be warm, and since this is your first time, it might tickles. just think of it a massage for your scalp. after you get it done, you head will feel very light, it feels good when your scalp get to catch the winds breeze and the drops of water on your scalp. just relax and asked for a scalp massage after you get it done
this is a very noble thing for you to do.

I am soon going to be shaving my head for Locks Of Love and I am scared out of my mind. I have never had short hair but I am going to go all the way since I now so many people with cancer. The part I am petrified about are the clippers I agreed to get my head shaved with clippers with no gaurd and I am petrified that they will hurt or not be pleasent. Can some one please tell me what they feel like? I am a 14 year old girl so really can't I be expected to be terrified?? Please be descriptive or somthing...I need a clear msg that either I am right or I am wrong either way describe the feeling...AHH!
