From my experience, Duke, your assumption is correct. Maybe interviewers are suspicious that long haired applicants are hiding a blue collar underneath!
Sure do! I work for Whirlpool Corporation (appliance maker) and a new audio/visual fellow has long dreads pulled into a ponytail. Not a bad look. However he is definitely in the minority--I can`t think of anyone else in our building of 1,000 employees with a similar style.

One of the most stressful common experiences in society today must be the job interview. People are wary of making a bad impression and take special care of their appearance. Unfortunately, this has included men with long hair cutting it, out of fear that the interviewer will be a conformist who will eliminate them due to their hair. But does anyone know of opposite case, where any male white collar worker - yourself or somebody else - has landed a decent white collar job (mainstream business, teaching, government etc) with long hair? Please share the experience. I am also posting this on the mens` hair board.
