The 'issues' I encountered;

*) I'd never had anything but water in my hair- Lack of experience in the way my hair 'goes'
*) I didn't have an example to 'copy off'- I was running off what I remember of it (not much)
*) Far too much gel- In the week I experimented with it, I used a total of 1/4 of a tin
*) Too much general paranoia about what it looked like
*) I was pushing my hair forwards and up- I've found that if I 'lift' it straight up at the front, it naturally falls & curls one way or the other

I'm still no expert. Today, the front middle of my hair sank down and the sides remained up- I looked like lucifer

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your experience. However, I am curious. What exactly did the stylist tell you to do specifically to prevent the problem from recurring over time? Are you not supposed to us as much gel or does it have something to do with how you blow dry? More details would be awesome. I know a lot of people that this happens to and maybe I can spare them some hair pain using your example of how you had a happy hair ending. :-)

Got it fixed. Went back to the hairdresser guy and got it cut again.

I've found when I try to 'spike' my hair straight up at the front, gravity/natural waves always bend it in some direction, giving it originality :)

Hello all,

I've never been a real 'hair freak' or anything, but last Saturday I went to the hairdressers, pointed at a picture on the wall, and the hairdresser did it. It looked awesome! I asked him how I'd do it of a morning, and he showed me. Gel on the hands, run it backwards through the hair, then push it forward. Hah- Simple enough. The next day when I tried, it looked nothing like it. In consequent days it just got worse, until eventually it started looking like one of those haircuts where its very short on the sides and medium and 'wet' looking from the top to the front. Not good
This was over the holidays, so there was no real harm done. The problem is, I go back to college on Monday- And I still can't get it right (I look like an idiot)

The original cut was had short, wavy-sorta spikes, and slightly 'slick'. I guess you could call it a 'natural' look- thats what I'm after.

I'd heard from one of my friends that you need to wash your hair more using gel, so I did. The problem is, without gel, a slight breeze will send it into the air, and it's very loose. Before, I used to wash my hair every 3-4 days, not because I'm lazy, but because the day after I washed it, it was uncomfortably light.
Doing a self-evaluation of my hair, I'd say it was wavy (aarrgh!!), in between brown and black, and at the moment, very light (if I completely flattened my hair with gel, there'd be at least 3 small hairs sticking up).

Can any of you recommend a solution or idea? I'm not much of a cap person, but I'd glue a cap to my head next week for fear of looking like a gel experiment gone wrong. It's got me all depressed .

Thanks in advance,

Miles
