Lots of Asians gets permed to achieved the full-bodied texture and volume they want.

But sadly more than likely the results are not what we expected. My first time was a complete disaster of irregular curls and nappy dried out hair. It was huge and felt like a brillo pad. Everyone told me I looked like I just got out of bed even if I'd slave to tame it.

There have been somes articles this summer about the "new perm". Where the treatment is gentle, the hair is rolled to achieve soft waves, timing is perfected, and the conditioning ingredients are more potent. The result is soft, sultry, waves with minimal frizz. A sharp contrast from many of the puffed out, brown haired, and frazzled perms of earlier times.

Anyone considering a perm should go to a modern salon that offer this new perm. ISO makes a gentle perm, so do Matrix and other salon brands.

Be completely honest about your hair history and want nothing more than waves. Smaller rollers will frizz out even with the new perm, as I have experienced.

I used to want an big afro of curls. Now only waves are feasible.

Sounds great... is the process really called "The New Perm"?

Oh no, it's being hailed as "the new perm".

But it's really modern perm formulas from salon brands.

There are color-treated formulas that won't affect your haircolor and there is a formula from ISO that promises little if no frizz (which is a miracle when it comes to perms).

Now women are no longer afraid to perm again. They can blow it out when they want it straight too.

Not "afraid to perm again"... I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing!!!!! : ) : ) : ) Will more people perm their hair? Most definitely. Will more people get better results? Absolutely. Better yet, these perms sound less damaging than previously.
