i have naturally medium/dark brown hair and i've been doing it at home alot and never had any problems. just make sure u leave it on until itz pale yellow. get clairol l'image maxi blonde super(canadian) or l'oreal perfect blondissima creme.... they both worked fine for me. if u get it done at the salon itz going to be hundreds of dollars.
I think you should definately wait untill the highlighted bits grow out. Anyway, if you do it yourself, make sure you follow the directions and always do a strand test first.

Yes you'll need to bleach it, and absolutely go to the salon. It's just not worth the risk of ruining your hair. Doing a double process at home is very risky business.
I have extremely dark brown hair which has been highlighted and dyed few times. Now, I want to dye my hair blonde, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Just to give you guys an idea of how I look like, I have very light skin uhh fair complexion? dark brown eyes. Is it a good idea to dye it at home or would going to a salon give better results? Thanks a lot for the help. By the way, do I need to bleach my hair in order to go blonde?
