I have naturally medium brown hair and I've been experimenting with highlights for a while now. The stylist convinced me that red would go really great with the blond, but now I'm not so sure.
I *like* the blond and red and brown, but she started the blond highlights right on my forehead so if I pull it up now, I'm gonna look like a skunk.
How long do I need to wait before I go and have that first blond chunk dyed red to match the streak behind it?
I think it depends on what you were going for. It's hard to say without knowing more about the type of look you want, but I would gather from the style, that you have a New Yorkish, punkish style. The highlights are very solid and don't really blend that well, which makes it not look too natural (I'm assuming it wasn't supposed to considering that red isn't a natural hair color).
It looks good, if thats what you wanted. If you were looking for a natural blend...then you may want to have a talk with your colorist.
Yeah, usually it takes a little getting used to but I think it looks nice. It's bold and different but not too crazy. I'm sure you'll turn a lot of heads, in a good way of course.
Ya I like it alot. Especially the blonde and brown together.
But I have had the same problem with the skunk thing. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about when you put it up. When your hair starts to grow out, it won't look so harsh. But if you still want to fix it, just go to a stylist and ask them to break it up for you.
Sweetie, I don't mean this as an insult to you, but I think these "highlights" look horrid. AND, I believe that most people that viewed the photos would agree with me, despite the compliments you are receiving as feedback.
I know this is just one opinion, but I find it surprising that all the responses are sooo encouraging... I think most people are very nice by nature and want to be complimentary. But, Aren't we here to be truthful? Whether good or bad... I feel disillusioned by this site, if people actually think this looks good.
Hmmmm.... about these highlights and the last comment about them: I think that the look that she was going for was "bold and different". I think that the highlights definatly fit the bill. The comment that Tigerlillie made about the highlights looking horrid was harsh to say the least- maybe you would not opt to get highlights as bold as the ones pictured in this thread, but I know a lot of people that love a fun and funky look. Highlights like these look very fun and hip. I think it's extreme to say that people's comments on liking these highlights have to be false, and hence they have you disillusioned with the board..... everyone's entitled to their own opinions, and not everyone's ever going to agree on liking the same things. You say you think the look is horrid- well, i'm sure that there's plenty of people on the board that DOES like the look.

I think these could have been done better- however, I don't think the colors or the style looks horrid on you at all. If I were you, I would just take a visit back to the stylist and ask that they be colored a little more "flush" with the rest of your hair. The red is done in a way that is extremely choppy, and actually looks like it's fake because it's not blended well :)
If you were trying to achieve a very bold look, then I would say they're okay. To say they're "horrid" is not only tactless, but a bit severe. On the other hand, if you were looking for a more conventional highlight, and instead, this is what you got, then I would definitely go back to that colorist and demand that she/he tone it down and make it less stripey looking.
