I have been coloring my hair for years with excellent results. I usually used a Med. Warm Brown and had beautiful reddish highlights. Last spring, my husband talked me into having highlights (blond) added. I went to my salon and had this done. She used a cap and added much more than I wanted. Everyone loved it but me. We went on vacation to another state for 3 months and I took my "formula" with me. I went to a salon for a "touch up", but came out with an all-over blonde! It was kind of brassy looking so I used an Ash Blond (don't remember what product) and it toned it down. I lived with that for another 4 months and decided I wanted to go back to my reddish brown hair. I used a light reddish blond straight from the bottle (no developer) to get color back into my hair and then I used a combination of shampoo, hair color and developer and it turned out good, but not at the level I wanted (still a little too light). That was almost 2 weeks ago and today I used a Med. Warm Brown. I made the mistake of not doing the touch-up method--I applied it to all of my hair! UGH!!! You guessed it--nice reddish brown roots but with dark (almost black) on the outer portion. Can I use Color-Fix or should I try Dawn or Tide? I have Palmolive--will that work, too? I called Revlon and they suggested Dandruff shampoo. I used it today but it doesn't look any different. HELP!!

Sorry to hear about your hair colour disaster. If I were you I'd try Dawn and/or Tide (without bleach of course) first. If you can stand to live with dark hair for a few weeks, the good news is that dark colours tend to fade very quickly on their own. My hair went from walnut brown to a light golden brown in 3 weeks (with just regular shampoo). If the Dawn and Tide don't fade it enough and you absolutely can't wait to get rid of the dark colour, I'd go with the ColorFix. Since you're not aiming for a light colour, one or two applications of ColorFix should probably be enough (I doubt you'll have to bleach). You'll probably end up with a pretty funky colour so you'll have to take that into account when choosing a colour for the re-dye. Just make sure you do a strand test before you put any more dye on your head. Good luck.
P.S. I've found that most brown hair dyes come out much darker than the photo on the box indicates. I got the walnut colour from using Nice 'N Easy light ash brown on previously bleached hair. I've found that L'Oreal shades tend to be even darker than Clairol.
My user name is WAY too long. Just call me Juliana. :-)

OK--this is what I did. After staying up 'til 1AM this morning reading all the horror stories on this forum and all the helpful information I decided I would try Dawn this morning in the shower. Nothing happened. It was still awful!!! I have always been VERY particular about my hair and decided I could NOT live with the color. I went to Curves and felt like everyone was looking at my hair---which they probably were! Remember, 2 months ago I had blonde hair when I started. After I left there I went straight to Sally's and talked to a very helpful girl. She agreed that ColorFix is the best corrector. She helped me pick out a new shade to reapply. I went home and told my husband it was "hair day" and then I disappeared in the bathroom. Well, ColorFix was so easy to use and the results were tremendous!!! I applied my new color to my roots first and waited about 10 minutes and quickly distributed it through the rest of my hair. I only left it on for a minute and then rinsed and conditioned with a great conditioner the girl at Sally's recommended. I can't tell you how great my hair looks!!! I now have a light reddish-brown close to what I was aiming for and I've gotten a couple compliments on it today!! I can't thank everyone enough here and at Sally's! No more going blonde for me. It's too pale for me. I need color around my face even though they say you should go lighter as you get older. Just as long as it's NOT black!! LOL Thanks again. :)
