I would like to use an OTC auburn hair dye to put chunky highlites in my med. brown hair. Is there a way to thicken up the dye into a paste, so it can be brushed on to selected sections? In its present form it is too thin and drippy. Thanks for any help!

If you buy your dye at Sally instead of over the counter, you can choose cream developer instead of liquid, but even that can drip. There are highlighting kits out now that do reds and other color highlights, I'd go with one of those that are made for it.
