is it possible to cut the shrinkie off say with like a exacto kinfe like a small slit as apposed to applying oil? the only thing that it would cut would be the shrinkie not the hair.
I would think if you used oil to take it off or even heat, how could you reapply it without leaving residue. A friend of mine is a plumber and he said its just regular electrical coating PVC. If you have a connection like someone in the construction field, u could probably even get this stuff for pennies.
Is there a density that you get> like thickness? or are they the same thickness.

I've thought about that cait. using a razor to remove the shrinkie. I suppose it could work. I would be leary about putting a razor so close to my natural hair but if you're careful I can see it working.

I am liking these Shrinkies more and more. I've done some research and I would like them done. If there is anyone (AMM?) in Los Angeles, I would like them done soon. Thank you.

The drawback with shrinkies is that you cannot reapply them. Since there is about a 2:1 and 3:1 ratio when they shrink, the walls of the tube are now completely thinned and wrapped around the hair strand. Any type of cutting or razor work would surely get your own hair with it. I do not advise that at all. I mean, you could try it but I can guarantee you probably won't do it more than once.

The shrinkie cannot be opened to accomodate reapplication. You'd never be able to get a strand extension back through.

Someone asked where I bought the tubing online. I got the adhesive lined from Dr Locks. If I find stuff for cheaper that works, I'll let ya know or I'll sell it myself if I find it locally. I won't rip anyone off in postal charges either. It burns my ass when I pay someone $8 for shipping and it costs them under a buck to send it.

I understand that. But they come off with oil, right? And I checked out the website. The Shrinkies aren't expensive. We'll see. I'm going for a consult tomorrow...

Yep. But I will say that I've had a couple where there was some excessive residue and I needed acetone at first but the vegetable oil removes the rest. I don't want to paint too rosey a picture of them because there's drawbacks to every method of hair extensions.

The important thing to remember about shrinkie installation (and this goes for microrings as well), is not to close the shrinkie or ring around hairs that are pulling from the sides. When things start to slip (and they eventually do, that's just the way it is) or hair starts growing, it's easy to rip these little stray hairs that come from the sides. With strand by strand methods, this is probably the #1 cause for damaged and broken hairs.

Good luck!

Oh, my God, amm--your hair looks amazing! And thanks for all the information you've posted on Shrinks. I think it will save a lot of people tons of money and their hair.

Awesome hair, Amm!

I'm a long-time lurker, and still kind of in the
researching stage ;) However, my hair is uber fine,
and rather thin :|

Out of all the methods i've seen, i think i'd prefer
to get the shrinkies done as well ..except for the
fact that nobody here in fairbanks does them, and
none of the extension salons i've called have even
heard of them *sniff*

Oh well!
I think when i'm ready to purchase the supplies and
all, i'll have my hunny put them in for me :D hehe :)

Okie, i'll probably bug you for your opinions on stuff
when i'm ready to send for my shrinkie-supplies :D

Thanks everyone!

I would just like to say again that I am unaffiliated in any way with anyone who makes or sells shrinkies. My reviews aren't financially motivated.

I am 6 weeks into shrinkie wear and I have NONE of that "white bulb" look between the shrinkie and my scalp. I take out the shrinkie and NOTHING is broken or sheared off. I am totally hooked on these things and, while they may not be for everyone, there is no other method I've found that works as well for me.

I also have fine thin chemically treated hair that has had years of abuse with blow dryers, curling irons, dyes, etc. and I could never get it to grow past my shoulders before it was riddled with split ends and would break off.

For those who currently have microrings or fusion extensions and are unhappy with them, you may want to look into shrinkies. :)

I think it's great that you are letting people know about good alternatives. There are too many extension methods that are not good for the hair, are too expensive and force hair stylists to take expensive classes that offer no help afterwards. I am not a stylist, I came here to find out what was going on in the world of strand by strand hair extensions before I got some put in. And thank GOD I did. I have done some research on Shrinkies and other than the residue situation (which I think can be handled by taking the Shrinkie off with veggie oil), I think this is going to be a great thing for those of us tired of the other methods.

Here is where I think I might order my tubing from.

http://cableorganizer.com/heat-shrink/heat-shrink3.htm

If you go half way down the page you will see, dual wall in 1/8" and it is adhesive lined, I emailed them and asked. The price is for 4 feet and that should make a ton of shrinkies. And they have it in clear.

Hi Emma,

That's an amazing price; you'd just cut each shrink yourself then?

I know it's adhesive lined, but do you know what the adhesive is? Are Doc's keratin? Does it make a difference?

Good luck!

cableorganizer.com is where I purchased my 1/8" dual wall tubing. The price is actually $5.40 per 4 ft piece because of a $2 packing charge which almost doubles the price of it. I don't like that and I don't know why they do that but it says it right about the info and it gets added when you put it in your cart. It's more opaque than real clear like the doc locks are. It's also a little stiffer and sizzles more when it's installed. Removal is the same as shrinkies. I just wish it was truly clear tubing but it's not. It's cheap enough to buy and see for yourself if you like it, though. This is how much it cost total:

1/8 inch Dual Wall 3:1 HST - 4ft pieceHS3A-0125FT4 $5.40 $5.40
CL-Clear
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subtotal $5.40
Shipping & Handling: First Class Mail $2.69
Tax Total $0.00
Grand Total $8.09

Its because its dual wall that it turns opaque.

Im wondering why you cant buy the regular tubing and add some glue (perhaps liquid gold) to the tip before you insert it? Heating liquid gold cures it so it seems it would be ok. Since the price of both kinds is so minimal, I may buy both and try half/half and see what happens.

Amm, Im curious, since youve already tried them, about how many links did you get out of the 4 foot section? And how big did you cut them?

Docs say theirs is Keratin lined but who knows for sure. Ive spent hours and hours searching the net for a supplier for shrinkies and so far nothing. They have to come from somewhere, right? I just find it odd that you cant trace them back to an origonal source, and anyone that sells them are so secretive about them.
