QuoteReplyTopic: getting extensions-worried Posted: December 21 2004 at 12:54pm
I am getting extensions next week for the first time. I had already bought some hair awhile back - can't remember the company, but it is supposedle silky straight remi cuticle hair.
My extension lady says it looks like good quality hair- but I need more ( The weft I have is 1/4 lb).
So she referred me to the HIS & HER catalog and I bought a couple of the 100% Italian mink french bodywave. I got it yesterday and it is BEAUTIFUL looking hair- but it is sooo fine and soft that it seems difficult to handle. Just running my fingers through it seemed difficult, especially compared to the other hair I've got.
Is it just the difference between the silky straight and the bodwave? My hair is naturally pretty fine and slightly ( very slightly wavy). The silky straight seems so much easier to handle, should I go back to my silky straight idea? HELP!
Thanks for the quick response- I am really excited. Do you think that the straight hair is less tangle prone than the wavy? My hair is naturally pretty fine and the Italian mink does match is very well. But, lets face it- if my natural hair was that great I wouldn't so excited about getting extensions.
If I use a less fine hair - will it look unnatural agaignst my naturally fine hair? Bless you for your opinions, I greatly apreciate them.

I think the amount of tangling you'll have will have more to do with the quality of the hair you use--not whether it's straight or wavy. I do think it's wise not to combine textures, though. I would stick with straight for now, if I were you, then reassess the situation once you've worn them for a few months.
Bohyeme, which Kristin sells, is quite good. In my opinion, Italian mink is bad hair because it doesn't hold up well. Hisandher cuticle hair is just amazing (hence the price), and hisandher regular weaving hair is alright. Some people like the Minx because it's so thin, but if you do a lot of blow-drying or styling, it's probably not the best for you. It looked good in my hair for about a month; I found it very hard to handle. Can you return that hair and get a refund?

Good question - His and Her may give a credit, but I might just be stuck with it- and I'm ok with that. I just want to put the best hair in to start. The italian mink caught my eye because it siad it was for soft and fine hair- which is what I have- but it is even softer and finer than my own.
I don't have a lot of experience, but I have done clip ins for years. Some of them are ok and some look like horse hair. But generally it makes sense to me that less fine hair will hold up longer.
Also can you use products like Farouk silk therapy on extensions?

You can basically use any products, as long as you keep them away from the extension bonds themselves.
What kind of method are you using anyway (fusion, locs, braids, wefts)?
Again, I would call the company (if the hair's still wrapped up and hasn't been used, you may be able to return it). Then, order either the Bohyeme (high-quality, good price, in my opinion) or the hisandher cuticle (extremely high quality, but also high price). A lot of people also like Glamourhair's Remy silky straight, but I've never tried it.
Good luck!

The extensionist say she swears by monkeybarz. She's been using it for 20 years. Since I've been researching though the shrinkys look really interesting-
Another weird thing about my HIS and Her hair was that it came just sealled in the box- it did have a paper band at the weft end over a rubberband, but it was not in a plastic bag or anything. TO look at it I had to take off the paper band, so now it "looks" opened , so I doubt they'll take it back. But I'll call and ask if they'll give me a credit towards the cuticle hair.

Wow that's really strange.... Hair always comes wrapped in plastic, at least in my experience. I've only had good experiences with hisandher, but maybe they're slipping a bit these days. Anyway, you should definitely get a refund because the hair is not wrapped in plastic, if for no other reason. I would call them, and I think they'll be reasonable, considering the circumstances.
As far as the method, I have nothing against monkeybarz specifically, although if your hair is thin or fine I wouldn't recommend it. Shrinks would be less damaging, in my opinion, but if your hair is very srtong you may be OK with either.

Thanks for the tips. I have NO experience buying hair- all your opinions are appreciated. It did seem that it should be in plastic , not just dropped into the box.
"Well": I DO NOT sell Bohyme hair nor do I sell any other kind of hair products. I am an extension stylist in Orange County, California and nothing else. I talk about Bohyme so much because I've wasted hundreds of dollars on other hair and had bad experiences. The pictures above are from my own personal advertising to show my perspective customers what I have or can get for them.
I agree with what “Well” said above tangles will depend more on the quality of the hair you use, not whether it's straight or wavy.
I regards to the question about using a thicker hair for extensions, here's a picture of one of my clients that had fine/thin hair that I used Bohyme hair on:
I just didn't want people hittting me up for some. I actually would like to sell it someday, among other things.... If I ever do I'll let you all know...
Kristin, if you don't mind my asking, what kinds of hair have used that you were unhappy with, and have any brands aside from Bohyeme worked out well for you?
Gosh, if only I knew all the brand names.... I've been using Bohyme for about 3 years now so anything before that is kinda foggy.... All together I'd say I've tried about 6 brands... Of course Cinderella is one, then there's Hollywood hair, Septia (I probably spelled that totally wrong).... That's all I can remember... When I first started buying hair I didn't pay too much attention to the names...
