Yeah, I like Isaac a lot, too. I was about to give up on extensions completely about a year ago. After some bad experiences with Hairlocs, Cinderella, and GLs, I felt like I was completely out of options (my hair was trashed, and I'd spent so much money).
Then, I went to Isaac, he switched me over to pinchbraids, and it's been pretty smooth sailing ever since. I like to do a lot of research and play around with DIY, and Isaac's quite supportive of all that. I wish he was online more, too. I also like to check out his wigs--they're quite amazing, really. I can't imagine being a wig-maker; it's such an interesting craft.
Who's Lynn? Is that his roomate who also works at Cyberparlor? If so, I like her a lot, too. I've chatted with her a lot while getting my hair done, and she's very sweet. What are SPX extensions?
Ohhhh, I wish Isaac would come to these boards more often. I would like to here his input on some of these topics. He has been doing extensions for a long time and is really excellent at his craft. I met him through my co-workers who are friends with him and he is really sweet. Lynn at CyberParlor did SPX extensions for me last year, they were amazing. I have been dying to go back, but am broke at the moment, but soon I will. I don't like doing my own hair, especially extensions. I give a lot of credit to the DIYers.
You're totally right, Julie. There are so many extensionists who don't know jack about the repercussions; in fact, I've been to a few myself. I think they just see the $$$, so they take one course, consider themselves to be "experts," and that's about it.
On the flip side, I continue to be impressed by those extensionists who come on these sites not to shamlessly advertise, but to share tips, ideas, advice, and knowledge. There are quite a few who come to mind--you, Kristin, Metalgirl, Isaac, and tons of the Quinnster crew.
These stylists are always looking for better, less-damaging methods and adding to their knowledge base. Extensionists often get a bad rap--and deservedly so in many cases--but there are many others who truly care about their clients and do a great service to their craft. And they should be applauded.
You guys have sooooo much knowledge, you should go to B-School and get that dexterity thing down. Do you know how many licensed stylist are out their doing extensions that don't know jack about the reprecusions? You guys know more than most stylist. Extensions take practice, but you have the upper hand because you have the knowledge. I say just do it. Especially you girls here in NY, do you see what they charge here for extensions, f-in crazy. I couldn't sleep at night if I charged $3000, the guilt.
Mer, I emailed you back. And as far as the patience thing, you get used to it, you just get in a weird little zone.Thats all.
I don't have enough patience. All I could do is streaks for friends, that is it. Anything more than that and I would cry. I envy the patience of the extenionists!
LOL! Me? Yikes! You don't want me doing your hair, girl.... I mean, I don't mind messing up my own head a little, but I'm definitely not qualified to do anyone else's.
No, I'm not in the hair business--too much responsibility. I'm my own guinea pig, but that's about it. If this obsession keeps up, though, who knows? All of us will probably be opening up our own salons, and doing our own 30-inch two-toned heads when we're 80 years old.
Due to a lack of practice and manual dexterity, I'm much better at researching this stuff than I am at actually doing it, I'm afraid. I do think I'll be the weave queen by the time I'm 60 years old, though, so if you want to hit me up then... :)
Don't worry Mer, I will mail you back in a little bit, I have an idea for you. But let me go finish my laundry and I've got a puppy here that is dying for my attention right now. So hold on girl.
Jen
I always use 50% italian Mink, never had a problem, none of my clients ever complained about the quality. But I do want to try Boheyme but they are back ordered on color rings.
By the way, I don't know if you've used these kinds of hair before, but I would go with the Bohyeme for durability and quality. I don't think the Italian Minx's mixes are very good quality, although they usually come in really long lengths.
What a cool offer! I'd take you up on it myself, except that I have a very specific plan in mind for my hair involving Shrinks and synth.
I'm sure someone will take you up on it soon, but in the meantime, why don't you post on Quinnster's site, too: http://pub63.ezboard.com/bhair18356
And by the way, I love the string/Hairpolice method--very secure, nondamaging, and easy to install and remove. Because there are no chemicals or metals used, this would be a wonderful offer for anyone who's trying them for the first time.
I felt kinda funny promoting my own business on boards that are usually frequented by DIYers. I just like to help out here and there. I do all kinds of hair extensions, dread extensions, dreadperms, cut& color,....... except updos, don't like those.
I need a Human Hair extension model for my website, that should be up in around March. I am trained by Hairpolice, so the extensions will be pinchbraids.
I am looking for someone that is pretty photogenic, because I will be taking the pictures and, well I am not a professional photographer.
Also, I would prefer it if your hair was no shorter than shoulder length and not too thick and must be in good condition. I would like to use contrastie colors (like black & blonde or something fun).
All I ask from you is to pay for the hair, I will be using His & Her 50% Italian Mink or the Bohyme. I refuse to use cheap hair. And I will install them for free. I would install them on a weekday afternoon Tues,Wed/Thurs, sorry not Fri/Sat.
So if you or someone you know is interested please email me a pic of you and your hair to: astrolocks@yahoo.com
