isaacnyc. What exactly is a pro steamer? I keep picturing some big steam machine. LOL And I keep thinking that its not possible to steam the hair once its attached to the head. I have no idea what a pro steamer is.......
update......It looks the the velvet curling iron doesnt work on the prostyles. I tried it on medium and high. As soon as I take the curling iron out of the hair the curl droops and falls. So, so far the only thing that I have tried that has worked has been the velvet covered hot rollers. So I definitely believe it has something to do with the 'Jenny Theory' of heating, setting and cooling in the same position. I am totally disappointed because I cannot see myself using hot rollers and achieving the look I want. I need to use a curling iron to define certain curls. You cant be as precise with hot rollers and put a curl exactly where you want it.
Well I dont have my plastikhaar to do any experimenting on yet. But I do have prostyles here that Ive been playing with and the velvet rollers worked excellent. I plan on trying out the new velvet curling iron on the prostyles tomorrow.
Maybe if the plastikhaar doesn't work one of the other synthetics would work out?
I have no idea if it would work with velvet rollers but most definitely the velvet iron has no effect but to ruin the synth.
Heck, I was just experimenting. I think the 28mm curl is lovely but I am nervous about the long term care. I mean, if I wear it, it's going to be 24". What's it gonna look like after I sleep on it? How's that curl going to be after sleeping on it in a braid? How do I spruce it up between wash days? I can't straighten it, obviously, so I'm stuck with one look - curly.
I'm on the fence with this one, ladies. I love the way it looks and I love the curl. I mean it, this is some gorgeous looking synth. And the price? Man, this is so affordable even with overseas shipping. I just wonder if I can handle such a different styling routine.
AMM: Do you know if the PlastikHaar works with the velvet rollers? I have a feeling that these types of hair (PH, Dome, Pro) have to be curled and cooled in the same position. (I think you can do the same with steam or boiling water.) Am I off here? Synth has me so confused...........:)
I got a velvet curling iron and it won't do a thing to the silky straight Plastikhaar. I tried it on half power (not a thing) and full power (crimps up and becomes rough).
So..... if you get Plastikhaar and want it curly, be sure to get the curl ya want from the get go.
I have a vevet flocked curling iron on the way. A gal on Quinn board posted me a message that the target store where she lives had them. So she offered to get one for me and send it to me. I paypal-ed her and she picked one up and mailed it out to me. What a sweetie! I cant believe how hard these are to find! Cant wait to try it out!
Jenny, I think the hot rollers/steam rollers may just be a personal preference thing. I was just thinking the steam may help "set" the curl. I believe you are right about the hair needs to curl, set and cool in the same position.
That's a good point about whether they'd last longer with steam or regular velvet. Maybe someone on Quinn's would know, but I've never seen anyone express a preference for either kind over the other. Hmmm.......
I left them in until they were cool. I do wonder though how well the curls will hold??? I also wonder if the steam rollers would give more hold? Mine are just hot rollers, not steam rollers. But I am happy that the hair took curl without frizzing the ends! I think this little experiment was a success! Its nice when something goes good for a change!
Whew...that's great news. I guess there's a reason people use the velvet-covered then. How long did you leave them in the hair?
I'm relieved that it worked on the dry hair. I was starting to get worried that I'd have to "set" the hair every time I got it wet and let it dry in rollers....too much work....
BINGO.....my velvet covered hotrollers curled the hair beautifully! With NO frizzing on the ends. I used it on wet/dry strands. The wet didnt work. The dry strands curled beautifully. The larger curlers gave a real loose big curl, more of a wave, but the smaller curler( Id say, equivelant to a 3/4 barrel curling iron) gave a beautiful medium size bouncy curl. Just the way I like my hair! So I have new hope again for the velvet covered curling iron. Someone posted in a couple of different threads that Target and Wal-mart both have them. So tomorrow Im going shopping....Im on a mission!
LOL....I was checking those out too. I've heard alot of people recommend the carusso steam rollers. Mine are velvet covered hotrollers so we'll see what happens. Im heating them up as I type!
