About the washing, it's not unusual to be instructed not to wash for a few days after getting fusion. When you do wash it, it will feel superheavy at first, but you get used to it. Remember to keep any conditioners (as well as shine sprays and other lubricants) away from the bonds, on the lower portion of the hair. That said, you will need a good conditioner for the lower portion (I like Pantene Relaxed and Natural Intensive Moisture Conditioner, the new Neutrogena supermoisture line, Paul Mitchell Supercharged Conditioner, and Kerasilk); detanglers and shine sprays, such as Citre Shine, can be helpful, too.
You have fusion bonds with what I assume is human hair.
Your brush is not getting tangles out? Get a new brush asap. I recommend boar bristle and you should be able to find that either at Sally's or make a trip to the beauty store. You can't let this go. I suggest putting your hair in a braid immediately until you get a brush that will go through your hair.
For brushing -- My advice is to bring the hair forward over each shoulder in equal halfs so it's resting on your front. Brush through one side at a time so such a big bundle of hair is not so overwhelming.
Never brush in a way that pulls or causes tension on your bonds. While holding the hair firmly in your fist about halfway down the length, take your brush and gently brush downward about 3 inches from the bottom and slowly work your way up brushing in 3 inch sections, always working through to the ends.
If you encounter knots, always backcomb them out. Take that small portion where any knots are and work them backwards, releasing the hair from the snarl. Never comb down through a snag because you will lose and break hair.
Do not wet or saturate a knot with detangler. Knots and snarls are best undone with dry hair. It releases easier.
Repeat with the other side. Once you have the ponytail length that's smooth and brushed through, brush from the crown all the way through to the ends.
You have to wash your hair eventually so wait the recommended 3 days or so (wash the crown area in the sink between days if you have to). Leave-in conditioners are great and I find when hair is damp, it's a great time to make sure all the bonds are separated and not starting to cling together. Don't brush or comb your hair while it's wet -- use fingers.
You already have tangles??? I use two brushes and start at the bottom and work my way up. First I use a regular brush (probably whatever kind you used before you had extensions). I hold my hair in pig-tails or a pony tail to brush out the ends. If you need to hold your hand against your scalp to brush the areas closer to your scalp, that works too. Last, I brush over my scalp with an "extension loop brush" so none of my bonds get caught in the brush. That seems to work great for me and really helps to prevent breakage.
As far as washing goes, you'll get use to it. If the hair is good quality you shouldn't have any excessive tangling.
OK, so I just got extensions and the girl told me not to wash them for 2-3 days...they are the kind that's ends kind of look like a shoe-lace end and she melted them in with some kind of clamping thing (what kind of extension method is that called anyway??). It seems like it is going to be a pain in the butt to wash my hair. It's so heavy and I'm afraid to brush through it b/c I don't want to rip any out. I have a Goody brush that has black bristles kind of like a tooth brush - she recommended I use that...but that won't get my tangles out..!!??
Any suggestions other or comments??
