I have always lightly razored the top layers and around the sides to frame the face.( on myself, I have to have layers) And I go agree that the hair gets split ends quicker than if I do no razoring.
Im gonna have to try the slide technique, Ive heard of it before but wasnt sure how to do it.
I agree with oly on the slide technique, I find using a razor sometimes makes the extension hair kinda ratty and the ends split a lot quicker.
What I usually do is point cut the length and then with the layers hold them out at a 45degree angle and then twist the hair and then with really sharp scissors gently slide down the twist with a slow gentle chewing motion, so you do not rip the hair. Also while chewing down the twist do not close the scissors all the way just use a quick gentle open, close, open, close, but not closing all the way. This way the hair looks layered but not too choppy. I like this teqnique better than razoring bacause you are not ripping through the hair, just gently chewing.
It is good to practice on a manequin or just some random hair you have laying around before you actually try this.
Hope this could help.
Oh yeah, forgot to add sometimes I like to cut into the ends with thinning shears as well, if it still looks too choppy.
slide cut is my fave. on dry hair.it should be straightend. take thin horizontall partings starting from the nape . first section, with pull out on a 45degree angle toward the floor and have about 3inches of hair pass your fingers. this is your cutting hair. take your scissor hand and point the scissors down perpendicular to the floor,(palm toward head) and slide scissors down from hand to desired end. this gives a razor effect, yet on the dry hair you can see more of the natural fall of the hair and desired texture appear without guesswork. create your first guide then take your next parting and do the same all the way across.work up to the crown and go to your sides. i hope this explains it. i dont have pictures. this is also great for bangs. just an alternative to think about or try.
Ok, I need to know how to cut these long curly extensions that I have added. I have read a few posts somewhere, but cannot find them anywhere. Any suggestions? I want to wear it, loose, but, I do not like the same lenght all over, it would be nice if they framed my face. I have tried cutting at a angle, but it still looks too choppy, and then what do you do with the back? Thanks Octavia I have tried finding a pic, but of course, I did not find anything.
