There was a poster on here who had many problems because of them having hari loss/thinning hair. The Great lengths ( i think it was GL) stylist said it wouldn't be a problem, but it was. apparently extensions can just make it worse. I am a newbie, I know others will hop in here. I can't remember the womans name. I know there were quite a few threads on it, hopefully someone can find them to post for you to read.
Cathy, from what I've read, it really depends on where your hairloss is. You can use extensions to add volume to the sides and back, but not really the top.
There's a lot of useful information at www.heralopecia.com
Can you tell I get bored at work? I read everything everywhere, even if it doesn't apply to me.
Edited to add: And Jenny and I are running around replying to the same threads at the same time. =)
Generally, hair extensions are not recommended for woman with thinning hair or other hair loss issues. Most of the time, with the ladies who have such hair issues, their natural hair would not be strong enough to support extensions.
When I have clients come in for a consultation that have thinning hair/ hair loss problems, I try to steer them in another direction, such as a hair integration piece or top of the head piece. If they have their heart dead set on extensions, then I'll recommend clip ins.
As a rule, I won't do extensions on hair loss ladies. In the long run, in will cause more damage, most likely.
