QuoteReplyTopic: What Am I Doing Wrong... Posted: February 18 2005 at 7:30pm
...aside from my blow-dryer snafu earlier today.
My synth hair still looks pretty good, but it's really starting to feel like straw. I just sprayed it with lots of braid spray, and I've been using the Dome care product, too.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it's supposed to feel after a few washes? :)
Jenny, didn't the plastickhaar care instructions specify using fabric softener, like in a spray bottle diluted with water? Or am I high? That may be. Regardless, it sounded really logical that when treating synthetic hair, it should be treated more like 'fabric' than hair, being nylon/plastic and all. Just MO. But you'd think Dome's products would solve the problems. Have you tried Downey? Mixed with distilled water?
No, I haven't tried the fabric softener, but it's a good idea. I actually just read the care instructions on Sara's site again, and I think I've done several things wrong here.
Duuhhhh... I cannot tell you how much reading I did prior to getting this hair, but I think it was just information overload. I thought I could do more with this hair than I actually can. First off, her site says never to brush wavy hair or blow-dry it at all--only air-dry and finger-comb. So these were my first missteps apparently.... I'm also thinking that when I blew it dry the last time, the heat was too hot. The dryer was on low, but I didn't use the cool-shot button, so perhaps I singed it.... :)
didnt sara say that you could use a blowdryer to smooth out the straight hair? if you could use it on the straight without nuking it then i dont see why you wouldve hurt it..
Downy has a new Vanilla Lavender fragrance that is the bomb. It doesn't smell like the regular Downy at all which reminds me of freshly scrubbed baby butt. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
can someone link to the care instructions real quick? Can;t find them (ph's) Don't knwo about yall but I have had a helluva time navigating that board. thnx

Really. As much as I want to like their product, their site blows. Thank god we have JennyRR to navigate the thing - otherwise, the curl? Never would have found it.
Well, I think it's a bit confusing because it's sort of two sites in one--this was in the main shop (where the info. on all her services, like extensions, and retail products are) and the hair's in the wholesale section. Took me a while to figure out what was where too. :)
How about a hypoallergenic fabric softener? Have you ever used one of those? I wonder if they would respond to the hair in the same way, although I can't see why not. :)
Are the scent-free ones hypoallergenic? Or is there something that is specifically hypoallergenic? I still have problems with the scent-free kind (although the dryer sheets don't bother me, just the liquid - go figure!) I'd love to find out; I've been so hyped about getting some plastikhaar but I want to know I am able to take care of it first!
I think you should specifically look for one that's labeled hypoallergenic, as opposed to just fragrance-free. I don't use the stuff myself (too lazy), but I used to have a roommate who was allergic to EVERYTHING and she always used very specific laundry stuff, including fabric softeners.
You might want to try a google search, although I imagine someone here will have experience with this. :)
i think the hair is just a little straw-y. it doesn't bother me, i am not good at blowdrying the ends though so i have to get someone to do that for me.
i love plastikhaar
