QuoteReplyTopic: Applying Extensions Posted: March 12 2005 at 9:22am
When applying single strand extensions (shrinkies or extendtubes) is it the norm to leave hair out inbetween the rows of extensions? I hope this is making sense... like do a row of extensions and then leave a row out.. is this personal preference? Depending on desired thickness? OR do you link up all the hair?
It depends on the thickness you want and how long and thick the real hair is, imo. For short hair, you want to do every single hair (no spaces); otherwise, you'll have a kind of gappy, or stringy, look after you wash the hair. With longer hair, you might want to leave a little space, which can make it look more natural, but if you want it extra-thick, you might want to do it all anyway. If the real hair is a very defined blunt cut, you'll also want to add a lot of hair. As you move up the head, you may want to do gappier rows just at the top; that way it won't look like such a defined line where the real hair ends and the fake hair begins. But either way, it's really up to you. :)
I don't see why leaving no gaps would damage your hair, unless you're using a damaging method, in which case it'll damage whatever hair you do have in the extensions anyway.
Leaving gaps between the extensions can actually cause more damage than good when using fibre as the fibre hair can get tangled up in the natural hair and cause matting so it is best to do block rows and not leave spaces.

It doesn't have to be natural to be fabulous!!!/
