Hello all --
I check out this board occasionally for any JF news about a return of Celebrity Hair Spray, but felt compelled to respond to this thread. I am a short hair lover myself, and although I have worn my hair every which way you can imagine (from very short crew cut to mid-back) I always end up back with my short crop. Usually, I just start to crave the lightness and ease of short hair again, and go chop it off. I've always found plenty of people who prefer short to long, and plenty of people who just don't understand WHY I would cut off my hair. To each his or her own, but for me it's so much easier to care for and so much more fun. I just chopped off a long bob a few weeks ago, in fact (summer is usually when I get "the urge" to go short).
I love short hair on women but I'm not sure about the word "fetish", it has certain connotations! I just admire women who go through with it, even now. My first experience came when I lived in Detroit in 1975. There was a girl about 20 who went round in a fur coat and sported an all-over #1 buzz-cut, which was absolutely unheard of at that time. I just stood there open-mouthed in amazement. She obviously had a lot of money and a lot of chutzpah, and frightened me to death, but it's an image I never forgot to this day. But I don't think of myself as a short hair fetishist, just an admirer.

I was gone for a couple of days and was pleasantly suprised at the responses. There are more short hair lovers than I thought. I have always liked short hair on women - I can remember back to middle school and the girl I had a crush on - you guessed it - she was about the only one with short hair at that time (70's). When I met my wife she had hair down to her waist - so it is just not the hair for me. Guess what - my wife now sports a short crop and I love it!! I'll probably will hear about this but I did encourage her to cut her hair. (She doesn't want to go back to long hair now)
As I have said here a few times, I like to see change and that usually means cutting but growing is good too. As for general preference, I tend to like shorter rather than longer because as not everyone can wear long hair just as not everyone can wear a mini skirt and tube top.
Hey folks i have just a few comments on the subject,
First: I saw the awards show and I thought that Charlize Looked the best she ever has..over all I tend to like females with shorter hair..I don't think this way just to go against the social norm or anything I just think most women with shorter hair usually keep it well trimmed and the style itself in shape! Also since it is shorter it retains the damaged hair a shorter time so it is USUALLY in better condition..Not all women look right in short hair, it all depends on the person. I also like the "I know I'm sexy" kinda attitude that a female exudes when she is comfortable with herself and many of the shorter haired women are just that! I have many many more reasons that it works for me but i better not try and state them all now..
Second: People lets all just try and not be so negative with each other and let everyone speak whatever they want!Lets not forget that it is just a message board on the internet put here for the enjoyment of all..so come on lets just have fun with this! Thanx for hearin' me out! -b =o)

Why short hair, again, I can only answer for myself, but I grew up in the 70s, and long hair was in, usually long, stringy, blah hair. Whenever a girl cut her hair, it usually looked about 1000% better, and the girls would usually keep it looking nicer as a result. Also, for many women, short hair is much more flattering, not for all women, but for many, short hair looks better.

First, to Jes, thank you for your clarification about the "go short" message -- I couldn't tell that it was a "rah-rah" type of blurb. And though I took no offense, I appreciate your concern in that regard.
I have no issue with differing preferences. But I know that JerkyFlea likes to keep this board as "politics-free" as possible, and statements such as arch94's "Everyone else needs to surrender their locks to the scissors" sure reads to me like a politically-charged statement that would be more suited to the "Hair Politics" discussion board.
I can speak only for me. I always loved and still love women with short hair and it's not a reaction, it's only a taste. In spite of it, I don't think that short hair works for any woman, only for those with beautiful faces. For those, cut the hair short make they look much and much beautiful. The special ones with wonderful faces can become the perfection in beauty with a very short haircut. Charlize Teron and Halle Berry are some of them. I'm waiting for Natalie Portman.
And I don't think we are minority even in this group. I mean, for those who have a hair fetish, a half or more loves short hair, the act of haircutting or both, sometimes associated with long hair fetish (it's possible).
I like long hair better on Charlize myself...but I can definitely see why some like her short cut.
A question short hair fans: Just curious...have you guys always liked shorter hair on women? Or is it because it's a change from the long, especially long and grungy look that was popular for awhile?

As for Long Hair vs. Short Hair, one "fetish" is not better than the other, it is apples and oranges, in my opinion. I do feel, however, that a long hair "fetish" may be more acceptable than short hair for two reasons, one, long hair is traditionally viewed as feminine, and therefore more acceptable, and two, there are more who like long hair than like short hair. Me, I like short hair on most. Charlize looks best with short hair!

I'm with you Jes. IMO, there is only a handful of women that should keep their long hair. Everyone else needs to surrender their locks to the scissors. We are definitely a minority though. We get chastised when we harp on short hair, though others(i won't mention who they are)harp on long hair only. We are the ones who get chastised by a lot of the people on this board, including the administrators! Why is the "long hair" fetish better than the "short hair" fetish? Anyone care to enlighten us short hair fans? Thanks
We all know what opinions are like...and I've got both!

To DaveDecker and anyone else that might of been offended, I went back and read my statement and still think that more is being read into it than was meant to be. Of course, the statement about how she looks is my opinion - it came from me - I remember writing it.... I knew not everyone would agree with my statement - I think that is always assumed when someone posts a message. I guess I could of written "in my opinion" but to me that is obvious.... As for "go short" that was a clerical error - it should of read "go short hair" to affirm my admiration for short hair - not to imply people have to do it. Is there anyone else in this group that likes short hair on women? Or am I on my own?

I actually saw Charlize Theron on subject awards show. She's a woman with a slender body and an attractive face, but with a short haircut that is very unflattering to her -- in my opinion.
However, unlike you, Jes, I don't presume to think that my opinion or preference is a universally accepted fact.
And I don't wish to dampen your enthusiasm, but I don't understand why you offer a prescriptive (your "go short" urging). Say you love or hate a given celebrity's hairstyle, and why, fine, but who died and left you in charge of telling people what to do?
