.... no, that's not true at all. In fact, a few weeks ago I heard some people talking about how awful she looked these days. I suggested the word "Soccer Mom" and they agreed with me.
Since many of my friends are hippies, I take offense to this.
What's the most important thing about Alanis is her music.
She's a talented lady.
I agree that the only ones that found her attractive with her long shaggy "hippie" hair were the long hair fettish extremists. It didn't look that great on her. Now she does have a short hairstyle like many other women but it looks great on her.
Alanis has an interesting look, but let's face it she's no classic beauty... Seems the only one's who were drooling over her were the long hair fetishist on this board.

OK, this is my bottom line on Alanis. If Alanis had vaulted into the public consciousness with her present shaggy short cut, no one would have much commented on it then or now. It looks decent, not scintillating. And, I think she's very pretty despite the chop. The people who are raving about it are those who simply enjoy seeing change, and maybe those grateful that their hubbies are no longer nagging them to "grow it like Alanis". (lol) She really looks like most other women now, so what's the big deal? When she was a Rapunzel, a large percentage of fans drooled over her sensuality. The hair is gone; I don't like it, but I respect her choice. *My* choice has been to stop following her TV appearances. If she's on, great, but now it's a surprise for me. She's in love, and I'm happy for her, and I wish her the best. Bob

Little bit of an overreaction, Brent. Not as much of a reaction as the one Alanis' haircut received from longhair lovers like me, but an overreaction just the same. Vineman said his peace. No need to attack him for that.
You seem to be a frustrated lad Vineman. You seem quite disturbed by Alanis's new short hairstyle and some of the positive comments she has recieved on this board by some of the people here who like her new adorable hairstyle. Relax young man. Its just a haircut Alanis got. And I'm sure she likes feeling "stylish", even if you don't.
Not to worry you don't have to date her (not as if she would date you HaHa!).

Hate to burst your bubble curly, but Alanis has said in a few interviews that the video shows her cutting a wig, she had already cut her hair.

Surprised no one's mentioned this... Alanis's "Everything" video shows her actually getting her hair cut off, and it's available on her web site. Go to www.alanis.com and find your way to her music/video section (a little confusing) and you'll see it.
In the video she starts off by walking down a straight secluded road with a male friend, who suddenly takes scissors from her hand, runs behind her and cuts off part of her super-long hair up above her shoulders and flings it away! He makes another cut or two and then passes in front of her, and when she reappears she's got her new short cut. It's very clever the way they did it IMO, and the rest of the video is very upbeat and playful. (On a side note, I first saw this video while I was on stage in front of 60 people during a corporate computer event, and someone was showing the video as part of a demo of Microsoft's new Media Center operating system. When I saw the hair chop I nearly fell off the stage! Weird moment to see something hair-related.)
And IMHO, I think Alanis looks MUCH better with the shorter hair - cuter, more stylish, younger, everything with all that straight, heavy hair finally out of her way. She seems to be enjoying it too. And by the way, even a hair freak like me wouldn't go to her concert just to see her hair in any shape - it's her music that moves me!
She looks like a Soccer-mom! And what is wrong with Hippies!
I despise "Stylish" things.
I just hate it when people think of long hair as a "safety blanket". You could apply that term to ANYTHING that someone likes; hey I'lll throw away my computer! It makes me happy and it's just a safety blanket, I don't NEED it.
Now, I like short hair on some people(some of you may know I'm a big fan of Siouxsie Sioux's various hairstyles, which were generally between long pixie and shoulders); it can look quite cute, and even though it can sometimes take more product (apart from Shampoo/conditioner of course) it's easier to dye and all that. But Alanis does *not* look good with short hair, in my opinion.
Even if I was more of a short hair person, I still wouldn't like it, because there are simply far too many "celebrities" who cut their hair short, and not enough that grow it long.
It's not stylish enoiugh.
And no, I wouldn't like it if everyone had long hair, either. It would loose its magic.

Hal...HAL! I'm so long out of the "closet" I've forgotten what's in there! You gave me a good laugh. Thanks, Bob Oh, and Jasmine, I'm not shocked that you like short hair on Alanis. Call it intuition! (lol) Just teasing, Jasmine! You and I are definitely not viewing the same photos from her pre-chop days. Best, Bob

This is just silly. Most people don't buy Alanis's music or go to her concerts because they have a long hair fetish.
I agree that she didn't take care of her long hair very well and she didn't look as good in long hair as some women do. As a short haired gal, of course I'm glad to see that she wears short hair so well and seems happy with it.

Yes, I've seen pictures of Alanis in which her hair looked like a rat's nest, but these photos are rare exceptions. Most times it looked angelic, even at thigh length. When I saw Crystal Gayle years ago, I was shocked to hear hundreds of male fans whooping it up every time she turned her back and swayed her hair. I wasn't alone! NOW I know that there are millions of men who go bonkers over a woman's LONG hair, but it's not the macho thing to admit! Trust me, Alanis has lost far more potential concert attendees than me, Gord and Dave. (lol) Bob
