I have been going to a hairstylist to get my hair colored for about a year. I get my naturally medium brown hair foiled to a very light blond. It looks blond all over (no brown anywhere). There are some subtle slighty darker blond streaks to give it dimension, but mostly people tell me it looks really light blond. Well, I have to go back every 6 weeks because it is much lighter than my natural hair color, and up until the last time I went, she would foil it again just like she did the time before. I don`t get a toner put on it. I have been extremely happy (except she is a little pushy--but so am I). However, the last time I went she said she really did not want to foil it all over again, because it needed a rest. She said she was just going to do my roots. I had asked her in the past several times to do that, but she said it was not safe to just do the roots (That is the opposite of what I have always heard - but go figure). She had gone to a hair color workshop and apparently learned what I had known all along. Well, I assumed (I know that it is dangerous to do that) that my roots were going to be the same color as my hair. Well, guess what. They are copper just like a penny. I hate them. I went back to her and she said she did not see what the problem was. I told her I thought they were going to be as light as the rest of my hair. She said that they were supposed to be copper. I say YUK!!! Anyway, I left the shop with no satisfaction. I was already starting to get a little tired of her bossiness but I overlooked it because she had done such a good job before. I have done my hair before pretty successfully. Do you think I ought to just get some on the scalp bleaching products and lighten my roots to the same color as the rest of my hair? This is what I am afraid of though and this is really my question---- If my hair roots are slightly lighter than the rest of my hair when I get through bleaching them, can I just put a toner on them and pull it through the rest of my hair to kind of blend it all together? I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or help you would give me.

I wouldn`t do it...especially if you haven`t done it before...you could end up with overlap and breakage...and if you don`t let the lightner stay on long enough it could end up looking orange..or too light. I would just try going to another salon..maybe a color specialist. I`ve just read so many disaster stories on this board...I think yours is one waiting to happen if you color it yourself.
Maybe someone else can give you more insight...Good luck..I hope you get rid over your copper roots soon...the color you had before sounded lovely.

I am going this afternoon to let another colorist look at it. Last night I applied bleach to a small section of my roots in an area that can`t be seen when my hair is fixed. Let`s just say it was not successful. That is when I decided I needed to let another colorist look at it. Thank you for your help. I will keep you posted.
