I just recently discovered what a blessing curly hair is. I`m assuming I have it better than many poeple out there. Here`s my story! This summer , me, with my straight hair went to the "hair Play" to see a hairstylist. She was great, My hair was up and as soon as I took it down she pointed to a picture of a girl with curly hair and said "I can make your hair look like this!" after a cut with long layers, I can wear my hair straight with great body or I can scrunch my hair and have very tight curls...and best of all, it was all natural. The only problem is that the longer my hair gets the sraighter it becomes. Does anyone know of a gel that holds curls really well, a curl definer, but thats not too expensive?? I have a really tight budget. Thanks
Also, anyone needs ideas on how to put their hair up, causual or dressy, email me. I have a million ideas for all different kinds of hair and I will help as many people as I can. Sorry so long!!!

I started using this stuff called "Right On" that I found in Wal Mart. It is a curl activator and a leave in conditioner. I found it with the products for Black Ladies Hair. Believe it or not, it is one of the best products I have tried. I don`t even need to use a defrizzing product anymore, it`s not heavy like a gel and it leaves my hair soft and curly.

If you have any pictures of cute ways to style long, curly hair or any web sites, please contact me. I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Maika,

I think I said if anyone knows of any cute styles, let me know. Sorry I don`t know much.

I usually put my hair up by putting it in a low ponytail at the nape of my neck, then twisting it up an pinning the twist against my head, leaving the ends out and on the crown of my head. I once tried a variation of the same style, sectioning my hair at an angle across the back of my head (from the left side of the nape of my neck up to the right side of the crown) and twisting each section up to the crown, leaving the ends free and pinning the twist down. I used those cute little butterfly clips and tiny barrettes to dress it up and it looked really nice. I don`t do it often, because it takes a long time to do it right if you are new at it, but give it a try.

I found that the tighter you twist the hair, then pin it down, the more luck you have keeping it up. Good luck!

I just read your story on your new look. I am happy your curly hair is working for you. At the end of your email you said that you have good ideas on how to fix hair. Well my hair is long (mid-back) and naturly curly and I have it in long layers and I really do not know how to style my hair causually or even to dressy I usually wear it down. If you can please email me and give me advice, pictures or something I would really appreciate it alot.

Sorry, I really do not know what gel or mousse will work for curly hair, I usually stay away from that stuff.

Do NOT dye your hair at all!!! Natural is always better and leaves your hair healthier.

I am new to this site so I just had a chance to read your thread. How great that you were able to find a style that worked for you. I`m currently trying to find pictures of cute and short curly styles because I think I`m going to take the plunge and cut mine! If you have any thoughts (I have extremely tight curls down to the middle of my back right now) let me know.

Regarding products that are cheap and good for curly hair, I am a college student so definitely on a budget. The ones I have been using for about 4 years now are by Suave, in their Herbal collection. The frizz control gel (pastel green) made with aloe vera is great. I usually work a bunch of that through my hair when it`s wet and then spray Suave Spray Gel (pastel purple) with Lavender all over my head as well. Then I let it air dry. You might feel like your hair is crunchy at first, but when it`s dry you can run your fingers through it and it will soften up.

Both of these products cost about a dollar a bottle where I live. Sometimes I can get them on sale at Safeway for even cheaper! And the best part is, they smell really good. People are always asking what perfume I wear--and I don`t! It`s my cheap Suave hair products.

Anyway, I hope that helps.
