Hey, I was just jumping in to say that if you ever have any questions about hair--how to do a style you`ve seen, advice on day-to-day `dos, whatever--you can always ask me. I cruise the hairtalk section looking for people asking questions and I adore giving advice. I design hairstyles, so you`ll get an original look, and I`ve been researching hair stuff for AGES so I know lots. Just e-mail me or IM me or reply to this post and I`ll be glad to help.

HELP!!!! I`m in desperate need of a NEW hairstyle!!! I have VERY TIGHT RINGLET curls and it`s in the middle of my back whenever it`s brushed out straight. I have VERY thick hair and it IS FRIZZY!!! I would like an everyday hair do AND one for homecoming pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze!!! No buns please. Although if someone could teach me that messy bun that all the "cool" people do I wouldn`t mind that. I don`t want anything to complicated for school (15-20 min.....MAXIMUM) but it doesn`t matter for the dance...I`ll try almost anything. As long as I can show off the curls that all the other gurls in my school DON`T have. THANX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO: I like things that are different but not TOO "over-the-top-wild"

first of all, to help prevent frizz ALWAYS air dry. blow dryers don`t work well with curly hair. As for the messy bun, it`s really quite easy. For the "trendy" version, just do a normal bun but leave the ends out at the top. Make the bun nice and high and let the ends be spiky. For a more romantic version (which goes well with thick, curly hair), just pile the hair onto your head. Practice with shampoo, playing with the sudsy hair. The same effect is possible with dry hair if you just pile it on your head and bobby pin it a bunch. It makes a very romantic, messy look that I happen to like myself. Ok, homecoming do. I love curls in french braids myself. I would personally do a french braid pretty loosely for a nice romantic look and then tuck the end braid into the french part and pin it there. You might also try a gibson tuck (you can find better instructions than mine in klutz`s book, "Hair"). This is done by:
1. make a loose, low ponytail
2. Separate the hair above the ponytail, making a "pocket". Don`t separate the hair all the way through the ponytail; just above
3. Pull the end of the ponytail straight up and begin pushing the entire tail into the pocket. Keep pushing until even the elastic band is inside the pocket.
4. Smooth hair around the roll
5. Pin it.
It`s kind of hard to do, but certainly not impossible. If you want to show off the length of your hair, do the french braid tuck on the top half, using just the hairs at the "hairline"(the edges of your hair) to make the braid. Let the bottom half flow freely. Have a good dance. Hope this helped.

Okay, first of all if you have curls try to show them off.Not many girls have curls so be a show-off.Okay if you want to know how to make the hairstyle that all the cool people wear listen up!The first thing you need to do is get your hair smoothed out. The way you do this is make sure your hair is wet take a comb and comb your hair. Then blowdry. Also if that doesn`t work to get rid of your frizziness try THERMASILK for curls. Then form your hair into a ponytail and on the last loop take it through halfway only. Use hairspray if neccessary.
Now for a homecoming hairstyle. It`s according to what length you have. Please reply back.

Believe me, there are TONS of things that you can do with long hair. You always have your basics of course--buns, ponytails, and braids, and these can be varied to create lots and lots of styles. Multiple buns, ponytails, or braids, are easy to do and create a fun, funky look--especially buns all over the head. Also, when you let the buns down, your hair is all curly and cute. Braided buns are easy and cute--just wrap a braid around an elastic band and pin. To vary a braided bun, braid the ponytail multiple times and twist them together before wrapping them. Another easy (if incredibly common) style is the twists thing you see everywhere. Just section hair, twist back, and put in a ponytail, bun, braid--whatever. For a cute little "crown of buns", leave out some hair towards your face. Put the rest back in a bun or whatever. With the free hair, make a row of small buns (aka knots). To add a little bit of interest to a ponytail (or any up-do), wrap a piece of hair around it. To make it even more interesting, braid the piece first or twist it. Or you can divide it into several braids or twists and then wrap it around your do. For a fun bun, divide it into several pieces. Braid some and twist some, then twist it all together and pin. Vary any of these styles by putting them in just the top half or putting one on each side of the head (like pigtails, but with different styles)
Here are some formal styles:
-The ever popular "curly updo". Make a ponytail, curl it with a curling iron, and pin the curls around the ponytail.
-french twists (directions on this site)
-drapes. make a bun in the top half of the hair. then take pieces of hair from the bottom half and drape them over the bun. Pin them there
-bun chignon. make a loop of hair in the top half. Twist the bottom half and wrap it around the "chignon".
-heidi braids. make pigtail braids, wrap `em over the top of the head, and pin
-vary french twists by leaving pieces out at the top and curling them, braiding them, twisting them, etc...

ok that`s all I can think of for now. that should keep you busy for a while

avoid big hair, lots of curls, etc. However, don`t shy from volume--you do need it, you just DON`T need (or, I expect, want) a scary spice afro. Go for updos as often as possible (there are a lot described in the previous post, and you can e-mail me for more at _skwigel@excite.com) and remember to go half up for a sexy and sophisticated look. According to Cosmopolitan magazine, most men think that the sexiest look for hair is long, fine, just around the bra strap hair. If you need more, just e-mail me anytime.

hey, I just discovered something new last night when I was fiddling with my hair. It would be great for a formal occasion (I`m probably going to wear it to winter formal) and it`s really easy.
1) Make a high ponytail. Keep it smooth (use gel or water if necessary)
2) Fold the ponytail in half with the ends on the bottom
3) Fold the ends under and pin them there
4) This should form a happy little loop with no ends sticking out anywhere (you can gel down or pin down any loose ends you do have). Now you want to make it look like a roll on your crown, so take the loop and arrange it on your crown and pin it there.
5) You can stop there or add embelishments--this is one thing that I tried and it looked pretty, so here it is: pull out a strand of hair (carefully, you don`t want to ruin your roll!) from each side of the roll and curl the strands with a curling iron.
6) Cross each strand to the other side and place a decorated pin in the exact center of the roll, holding the strands in place. Allow said strands to fall gracefully towards your face.
Voila! It`s simple and elegant and so easy to change it`s practically clay.

Hi! Nice to see someone who knows their stuff about hair!

I have a christmas dance coming up and I really would like to have my hair up and out of road. There is one problem about going to the hairdressers though, I have a dandruff problem. I am NOT a dirty person, infact, I shower and wash my hair daily. Why do I have dandruff? Is it because I wear up everyday when it is practicly soaking wet? (I amn`t a morning person, so I don`t have much time to dry it!)

Do you have any tips on how to get rid of my dandruff problem or any styling tips? My hair is just past my shoulder and layered at the front!

Many thanks
X

I actually didn`t know much about dandruff, so I did a little research for you. Dandruff can be caused by a yeast infection of the skin (nothing to do with being dirty). If the loose flakes of skin are in patches, you may have a different skin problem than dandruff. What you can do:
-the obvious: use an anti-dandruff shampoo. this should contain zinc pyrithione and be available at a pharmacy. follow the directions on the bottle
-visit a doctor or dermatologist, but only if the shampoo has not worked in 6 weeks. The link included is where I got my info from if you want it.
As to styling, blow-dried-straight hair looks great with layers (esp. if you turn the ends under). Just below the shoulders hair works great with ponytail loops, especially if you turn it around so the ends stick up out of it. E-mail me if you want more help at _skwigel@excite.com

Please can you help. I have a school Christmas dance in 4 days, and don`t know what to do with my hair. It is almost shoulder length, but some fliks out the way, and the rest under (Even when I blow-dry it all to turn under, it only lasts about 2 hours)so it sits about chin length, at the front, and is cut shorter at the back. I can just tie it back in a low ponytail, but it only stays with a zillion gallons of hair-spray. I also have a fringe, and really need a hairstyle with a fringe, coz I`ve got quite a high forhead. What can I do?? I really like all the pictures of fancy up-do`s but feel my hair would be far to short. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Have you tried using those stretchy headbands with teeth? You know, the plastic ones. Well if you "put your hair back" (pull it off of your face) with one of these and curl your ends you can create sort of a halo-ish updo effect. Hope that helps.

and those messy bun things---i can`t figure out how to do them!! also this great style i`ve seen before...

it`s like your hair is all pulled hair and then a mass of curls in a circle....ammm....here i`ll give you the picture i`ve drawn of it [look in the image]

A really easy way to do a messy bun is to pull your hair back like to make a ponytail then make a loop and put the band around it, make another loop with the ends on top of the other one and put the band around again, then just keep doing that until you have all the hair in there. Also, you can do a high ponytail and on the last pull-through pull it only halfway through, then turn the ends you`ve left out upwards. You could also try low pigtails or pigtail braids. Or you could make high pigtail braids and make them into braided buns on both sides. Good luck!

1. Roll all your hair on medium sized curlers
2. Make a loose, high ponytail, being careful not to brush out your curls
3. Pull out strands around your face until you get the look you like
4. Take the ends of your ponytail and pin them down around your crown, leaving random curls free for a loose, romantic look.
5. Spritz with hair spray
