I would suggest putting the top half of your hair in a low chignon (on the last loop of a ponytail, don`t pull all the way through), then divide the bottom half in 2 pieces. Loosely twist these pieces, lift them over the chignon, cross them, wrap around, cross, wrap, etc. Be sure to do this very loosely. Then pin the twists in place. I have a picture but I`m not sure where I got it. You can e-mail me if you want it. _skwigel@excite.com

I cruise the hairtalk section looking for people asking questions and I adore giving advice. I design hairstyles, so you'll get an original look, and I've been researching hair stuff for AGES so I know lots. Just e-mail me or IM me or reply to this post and I'll be glad to help.

hey, i was wondering if you could tell me how to do a 40's hair style? like how to do finger-waves? i would really appreciate it if you could help me. and i need to know soon for the event. thank you

fingerwaves are just what they sound like--you do them with your fingers. first comb some styling gel through your damp hair, then use your fingers to make a ~ shape in your hair. hold this in place while you blow dry on low heat.

yeah it was confusing, but since you didn`t offer an e-mail adress...I would suggest doing a half-up look where you do rolls back to a bun and then curl the bottom half.

Hi I am a 17 year old female and I am looking for hairstyles for two different events. The first event is coming up very soon and I am in desperate need of something to do with my hair, I have med length, brown/blonde hair, staight, and a narrow face. The first event I am wearing a black dress with spagetti straps I have no idea`s on how to do my hair. The event is formal. The second event is my boyfriends graduation. I have found a few looks but I am not sure how to do them. I would like to have my hair look like it is done, and not just thrown together in 5 minutes. So if you could PLEASE help me that would be sooo great. I have been looking on how to do my hair for about a month now and I can`t seem to find any hair styles that I seem to like. You have been giving good advice to other people so I thought that you might be able to help me. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Please contact me at Mazepa_Head@hotmail.com
If could please send site addresses so that I could personally view the hair style before I attempt it on myself. The more original the better! thanks again :)

For your narrow face you need lots of volume--but don`t go for the big-hair, "hi i`m trying to be j-lo at the oscars" look. j-lo looked hideous; let`s not try to copy her. So...start with a zig-zag part to increase volume at the roots. You may also want to work some gel into your roots, that`ll help too. Then bring out the medium barelled curling iron and work in two inch sections all the way around your head. Roll up horizontally, but pull your hair out as you would to make ringlet type curls, vertically. This creates a very soft textured look without going overboard (ahem! j-lo!) with the curls. Pull out a few hairs around the face and curl them slightly more tightly but don`t make a spring. Finger comb the curls to separate them, then spritz LIGHTLY with hairspray and bingo bango you have a look that works for any formal or informal occasion.

Simpleness is next to goddessliness. Go for a half-up bun, leaving the rest down. On the part that`s down, curl random sections with a curling iron to emphasize the texture. You may also want to use some texturizing gel, but don`t go overboard or she`ll look like a drowned rat. Have fun and a great summer.

For the pageant: First curl your hair with soft (rag) rollers. Then put the top half of your hair back, separate some curls and pin them around your crown. For a little more curl definition, use a curling iron.

For the interview: i really don`t know anything about pageants or interviews, but if you want something part sophistocated part sweet you could go for a french twist with the ends left out and curled. Just gather your hair at the nape of the neck, twist upwards, pin in place, and curl the ends with a curling iron. Good luck, and I hope that helped!

Age: 18
Sex: Male
Hair: Long, about to the bottom of the shoulder blades, straight, dark brown.
I am partnering a girl for her prom, and she said that she wants me to wear my hair up, so that it`s not too `plain`, but she has no idea what she actually wants me to do! Could you give me some ideas?

A friend of mine is in largely the same boat, except his hair is just a little longer than mine, medium blonde, and quite curly.

Thanks in advance

Make pin curls. In other words, section hair in 2-inch squares, wrap the pieces around your finger, and pin the curls to your head. Sleep that way and you`ll have big loose waves.

Do your hair like Johnny Depp! Slick it back and either put it in a ponytail around the middle of your head (and curl it under slightly) or braid it at the nape of your neck. Look for some pictures of him in Chocolat, you`ll see what I mean. You`ll look sexy.

As for your friend...if I were his date I`d probably tell him to just leave it down. Maybe a little curl enhancer or something. If he wants to go high maintenence, he can blowdry it straight and do what you`re doing.
