Please help me. My hair is shedding like crazy. I have very thin and fragile hair anyway. It is very fine. I know hair is supposed to shed some, but recently my hair has been coming out just from touching it. If I run my fingers through my hair, I will have a lot of strands in my hand. And forget combing it. I have to tell my daughter to come get all of the hair off of my back. It is getting so thin, you can see straight through it. My stylist just says it is supposed to shed. How often should I be getting a touch up? Some people say that when you don`t go ahead and get a touch up when you are supposed to, that will cause shedding. On the other hand people tell me I don`t need a touch for two months or so because of the grade of my hair. I have been getting it touched up every 6 weeks. Too much or not enough? My last stylist said every 4 or 5 weeks, 6 weeks was to long to wait and that was causing the shedding. But then someone told me overprocessing can cause excessive shedding. I am so confused, please help me!!! (it has grown some though in the last couple of months, but looks stringy)

Your retouches should be based on the amount of regrowth you have...Not the number of weeks that has gone by. As for the excessive shedding, I don`t know what the causes are. Maybe it`s your diet.
I hope this helps...

I`m so sorry this has happened to you. I would go to a Dr immediately to find out the cause and possibly halt the hair loss before it gets any worse. I`m not sure why your hair dresser would advise you to get more frequent touch-ups when we all know the chemicals damage the hair in order to straighten the hair. Sure you can have healthy relaxed hair,I have healthy relaxed hair, however,I think we all strive to relax our hair less frequently not more. The golden rule is to not relax your hair when it is showing any signs of damage i.e breakage, severe shedding etc...... Hold off on getting anymore relaxers until you go to a Dr.

Hope this helps.

When your hairdresser told you that you should get a touch-up to prevent more shedding, sometimes that it true. But in your case, you have thin hair, so frequent touch-ups wouldn`t benefit you, unless you have a lot of new growth, and even then, your stylist should make sure to ONLY apply it to the new growth and not the already relaxed hair. My stylist told me that I shouldn`t wait a long time to get my next touch-up (I think I had went ten weeks) because I had a lot of new growth. And when you have a lot of new growth, the longer you wait til the next perm, the more may break off, since you have to comb through that rough hair, and it can cause you to comb out a lot of hair, therefore breaking it off. That`s the reason she told you about frequent touch-ups. But from the way it sounds I don`t think it will do you any good.

Try massaging some Profectiv Break-Free creme in your hair and scalp after your next shampoo. For some people, it helps to minimize breakage. For me, it helps minimize the amount of hair in the comb after I detangle my wet hair.
