QuoteReplyTopic: How fast do your hair grow? Posted: August 28 2002 at 6:43pm
My hair grows 7 inches per year, if I keep it braided up in cornroles in grows 13 inces per year, Is that average for black people hair to grow that much in a year, or do my hair just grows fast or what?
what do every body think about there hair growth? and how fast you think it grows?

First of all, you`re quite fortunate that your hair grows 13 inches per year. Second of all, I think you`re either completely fibbing or you`re measuring wrong. Which side of the ruler are YOU using? At 13 INCHES per year, you`d be Lady Godiva (albeit with a different hair texture) in less than a decade!
The reason why I ask about which side of the ruler you`re using to measure your hair is not to be flippant but to clear up a possible error; if your hair grows beyond the length of the ruler, that`s 13 inches but if it grows a little less than half the length of the ruler, that`s about 5.125 or 5.25 inches or 13 CENTIMETERS.
5-7 inches is still quite good, especially since many people don`t get that much growth due to a lack of necessary vitamins among other factors.
By the way, keeping your hair in cornrows all year is such a bad decision. Not only will that contribute to weakness and breakage, but very possible hair loss and clogged hair follicles in the scalp. When your scalp can`t "breathe," your hair`s growth is definitely impeded.
THIRD of all, at the risk of criticizing you too heavily, you really need to improve your grammar, capitalization, punctuation and spelling. An example of your poor grammar: "`do` my hair just grows fast or what" should read: "does my hair grow fast" as you don`t need the words "or what"; they`re unnecessary and we (as your audience) understand you`re asking a question without those words.
Your capitalization is not without error: "what do every body think about there hair growth" should be "What does everyone think about their hair growth?"
Your punctuation was fine for the most part but instead of a comma in your first sentence, perhaps a semi-colon (;) would have been another appropriate choice.
Finally, it seems some of your words are spelled incorrectly for the context, not overall. "There" in your second-to-last sentence is spelled correctly but it`s not the correct version of that word; you mean "T-H-E-I-R," but there are better words to fill that space as well.
In conclusion, I`d appreciate it very much if you would use spell-check prior to posting. If you don`t, you may be further perpetrating the stereotypes that currently exist against we African-Americans.

First of all, I don`t actually mean to keep to my hair braided for one year and not taking care of it, Just how stupid would that be? Think before you type stuff. Second of all you are acting like you never heard of somebody hair being longer then 12 inches. My hair grows pretty fast. I know what i know, my hair grow 7 inces inches per year, and twice as the amount if I keep it in cornrows.
Third of all... okay, okay, You was right about my grammar, but how in the world you know about my hair cycle, and growth? Some people hair just grows fast. Not every body hair grows 5 inches per year like yours.
Princess, Hi, I think it is a wonderful blessing that your hair grows that fast! I think mine is just the normal growht rate of about 5 1/2 inches a year. Can you tell me some of your hair care tips please?

Welcome to English 113. Carver, she only asked a simple question. Thumbs up to you Princess. The only thing I would suggest is not to keep braids in your hair all year. Give your hair a break.

Protein treatments made my hair grow alot! let`s see... i use montion CPR conditioner. You should also try drinking protein drinks, it had made my hair hair texture much better and thicker. But remember, get a professional protein treatment done once a month they will really help you out if you are planing out growing your hair .
Carver plus shut the f*ck up. How do you go away with tellin her how she spelled and you think she was fibbing or measuring wrong.. people know how to measure and I`m sure she does.
Why does she has to be lieing because she CAN get 13 inches per year? Like thats totally unheard of, Bargello gets 18 inches per year, you say the same thing to her? LOL
And then you gave her that damn English lesson, please please please.. nobody gives a f*ck! We all knew what she meant because we could understand it, if it really bothered you that much then just ignore her, damn.
I`ve only been doing my hair care routine since the end of January, but my hair has grown 3 1/2 inches since then, and I have trimmed a couple of times in between that ( for a neater appearance). I take only a multivitamin and wash and style my hair once a week with heat and do a protein conditioner at that time. I always oil my ends at night and I sometimes wrap my hair up at night or just sleep on a satin pillow case, but basically my hair grows about a 1/2 an inch to a little more than that a month.

I agree with Carver. Either you are lying or you are measuring wrong. The average is 6-9 inches a year and you know that. Even at one inch a month you couldn`t get 13 inches in a year unless you have a thyroid problem. Cornrows don`t make your hair grow faster either. They just maintain the hair you already grew and accumulate more noticeably. This is not jealousy speaking because I am a man. You are obviously trying to get attention. If your hair grew 13 inches a year you wouldn`t need to visit a hair board for grow out advice. You must be a teenager.
And you must be gay! But I am not even going to go there at this time(wrong forum). Ok, Kavim Shah! You said 6-9 inches was the average per year. Are you saying that it is not possible to grow past the average 6-9 within a year?

I think that it is possible to go beyong the unheard of in hairgrowth. The reason being is that there is this girl at my church who is a perfect example. About two years ago, she cut her hair to underneath her ears (no one liked it on her). But in the last few months, her hair just grew and grew, and I know for a fact that it is not tracks. Each Sunday her hair keeps getting longer and longer. I think she discovered something recently that has been making her hair sprout unnormally. Last Sunday when I saw her, I thought I was seeing things. Her hair was hanging besides her elbows!!!! Oh my goodness! I know that she goes to the hairdresser and all, but dag! No, I don`t think it had anything to do with genes, because her hair was NEVER that long! Her hair just started sprouting like that in the last few months. She`s about 24 yrs. old. Grief, I wish you all could see it.
I would love too! I gotta work up the nerve first.
You know, her older sister would be coming to church with these bomb hairstyles (and still does). But I remember a few years back when we all went on a trip. While we were on the bus, someone went up to her and asked her, "Who does your hair?" "What is her name?"
She had the nerve to tell the lady, "Oh. Well, she`s not accepting any new customers."
I thought that was a bit cold. I can see if the hairdresser really isn`t accepting any new customers, but she could`ve at least gave the lady her name and phone number so she could find out for herself. I knew the lady that did her hair, and she was a great stylist, but she did always have plenty of customers, so she probably wasn`t lying. But I would`ve given her the name and phone number, and then let the hairdresser tell her for herself that she wasn`t accepting any new customers. I`m sure people come up to her younger sister all the time and ask her what is making her hair grow so much. I`m doubting that she tells them, because I don`t see anyone else growing hair like that.

You know i dislike people (females) like that. Like its some big secret and if she tells she is going to get murdered. She probably won`t tell you what she is using because she sounds selfish.
anytime someone asks me a question about my hair i tell them. the vits & the sites that i take and go to. I feel the more i share the more my hair will grow.
each one teach one i say and so did somebody else (LOL)
