OK, This is how it went right...

I got my hair cornrowed, I previously had an Afro, and when not combed, it was Dready and Knotty...
After a week of it being Cornrowed, a friend took 'em out for me because they were to Frizzy. Don't know why because I took good care of them, I think the person that braided them just didn't do too good of a job.
When it was unbraided, it was kinda loose and hung, sort of like this -

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/gangsta.jpg ">

That photo was taken a few hours after it was unbraided, it hung down more right after it was done. I had it parted, so hair hung either side, but My friend Parted it crooked, too much to the left, so I made it afro-ish again by shaking it up with my hands...

when I was running my hands though it I noticed about 8 little chunks of hair came out with ease... I was sorta worried but it stopped after a while.

I liked it the way it was when it hung more, but when I woke up the next morning, it was Dready again, like I hadn't combed my natural hair for about a week, and wasn't loose or hanging at all...

I was just wondering if anyone knew why this happens, and if there is a way for me to make it hang down the way it was permanently...

Thanks for ya'll who help,
Cya,
Miatch.

i can't see your pic. But it sounds like your hair is damaged. I would suggest shampooing and deep conditioning it w/ your favorite cream conditioner and then using infusium 23 as a leave-in conditioner. Also rinse daily apply leave-in conditioner. Hope this helps.

you had a "braid out" where your hair was braided and then undone so that it kept some of the stretched out shape of the cornrows. to keep this look you can braid your hair in chunky sections every night. then work with it so that it has a part and finger comb downwards.

the reason your cornrows looked fuzzy fast is cuz you washed them with water. you can't wash your own cornrowed hair without getting fuzziness. you have to clean it with aloe gel or witch hazel or a latherless braid cleanser (see black hair stores).

i saw your pic {click here people: http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/gangsta.jpg }and i like your fro. looks good even if it's not hanging a lil. i have found that afro hair looks healthiest when it's not combed or wet too often. both can be so damaging to fragile fuzzy hair. periodic combing is necessary to avoid tangling/matting/locked hair so you should comb when you are restyling it.

seasweet thanks for your reply...

Your idea of braiding my hair in chunky sections every night was good, but I can't really get anyone to do it for me.
See, the first time I got my hair cornrowed, it was done by my friends Sister. She just did them straight down, but it still took 2 hours to do. The thing was, when I came, I didn't know I'd have to have my hair combed up for it to braid easy (My hair hadn't been combed up like a proper fro but about a week and it was all knotty and dready), but she went ahead and tried doing it anyway. The pain hurt too badly and the cornrows looked a bit weird cause she didn't get all the knots out before she braided. So we decided to do it the next morning after I'd had a shower and combed it up. So we did, it didn't hurt nearly as much, but it still took 2 HOURS!! (Doing a pattern I figure would take ages....)

I plan to learn how to cornrow myself, along with 1 of my friends. So then when he's over or something we can just braid eachothers... but after I unbraided it, quite a lot of hair came out too. Not enough for it to be noticable after I washed it the next day or anything, but when I ran my hands through it when it was loose and hangin, about 6 small chunks came out with my fingers... I think if I braided it about once a week I'd lose too much hair... Plus, wouldn't it just go back to being tight curls a day afterwards?

Seasweet my cornrows were looking fuzzy before I washed them with water. After I did wash them with water they looked a little bit better, and I gelled the friziness down as much as I could, but within a day, they were frizzy again.

My Mom likes my hair the best when it's not combed up, just natural and dready... But I say it's too boring. I've been growing my hair for about 9 months now and it's about 13cm long, I wanna keep growing it and get into braiding it different styles and stuff every once and a while... along with tryin other hair styles like Knots...

I have to comb it before I get it braided anyway, but it hurts a lot and it knots really quickly, so within a few hours later it'd already start to knot again...

This is a photo of me, with my Hair not combed up.

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/Mastahmeh.jpg

that photo was done a few months ago, so my hair is lot bigga now, and the dreads that create themselves are pretty long compared to in my photo there. In my opinion my hair doesn't really look like a proper Afro not combed up...
Still, I hate Australia when it comes to hair... We gotta pay over $100 to get Braids/Cornrows done at a hairdressers round here, and it's hard to find shops that will even do it. And when I used to just keep my hair short, like no. 1 Cut, they didn't do good clean cuts, just shaved. The people up in Aus really can't care for a black mans hair... it's frustrating.

BTW, how long are cornrows supposed to actually stay in? how often should they be redone? ... Thanks.

The braided should have put some moisturizer in your hair and then combed it, it probably would have been easier. Or when U are in the shower, try to comb it with conditioner in your hair with a WIDE TOOTH comb to detangle it.

I know people that keep their braids in for 1 week, some keep theirs in for 3. When I get them I keep mine in for a week and a half. So I guess it depends on how well they stay up. Did you sleep with your head cover so they don't be so frizzy in the morning?

Nice pic by the way.

Yup, I wore a Du-Rag over my head each night. I took as good care of them as I could have...

The Braider did a good job in my opinion. My hair was combed up, dunno what you mean exactly by a wide-tooth comb, but I used an Afro-Pick in the morning when it was wet to get out the knots...

When she did it she used mousse and all that stuff, she did a good braiding job in my opinion... it hurt a bit too, so I figure she did it tight enough...

Speaking of that, how come when you see people getting their hair cornrowed on TV it doesn't look painful at all??

A wide tooth comb, not a pick. click this link it can help you with combs and brushes and gives details of how to use them. Let me know if they help.

First time I got my hair cornrowed and then got them taken out, And my hair was stretched and crap, About 6 lil chunks of hair came out when I ran my fingers through my hair. It wasn't such a vast amount of hair that it was noticable but it was a bit... I just dunno if it will do that each time.

Sounds like you need to deep condition your hair before you get it braided. Guys just think that they can do what ever to there hair and it will be healthy.
( Not Yelling at you) But just be more careful with your hair and it will give back the same.
