Hi JF,
I am going to go ahead and lock it for Dave who probably won't see this until tonite.
Yes...there are rumors and misinformation about this topic and I personally hate any time I see this topic pop up on HairTalk or get private emails about it.
Thanks JF. Appreciate the heads up.
Good to see you here.
Karen

I would humbly ask that Dave lock this thread now before it gets out of hand as it usually does.
Sarondie, read the site itself on what they are about and what they do with the hair and send them an email with your questions/concerns. Do some research on the net, like checking out Give.org and email Give.org with your questions on any improprieties you may suspect. Then MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND. That way you can avoid any of the rumors and misinformation that you'll hear on both sides of the issue around here.
Holding hands and singing "Kumbayah" loud enough to drown out the inevitable arguing,
JF
3 pm is simultaneously too late and too early to start anything.

They get lots, lots more donations than they could possibly use. They make 100 some-odd wigs a year, and receive hundreds of thousands of donations. Most of the hair is either sold off to pay for expenses (it will end up as extensions on Hollywood's glamorous and wealthy) or is discarded because it is too short, colored, permed, or in bad condition. Do they tell people with hair like this not to bother donating? No, they encourage all donations. Too bad if you didn't read the fine print...
Most people who donate think they should do so because there's a child with cancer who won't have a wig unless you cut your hair and give it to them. Not true, they don't even make wigs for kids with cancer - but they do not correct this misinformation you often hear.
I've heard that they don't actually give the hair to cancer patients, but that they sell it to other sorts of folks. The other thing is,.... and assuming that people donate to Locks of Love to help child cancer patients.... it's a LOT easier to care for a synthetic wig than a wig of real hair.
It's your choice, really, but do your homework first and you'll find that LoL has had some issues with the Better Business Bureau

I'm just curious to see if anyone has donated their hair to Locks of Love or a similar organization. I've thought about doing this before, and wouldn't mind hearing from someone who has.
