What kind of hairbrush and comb?

When I wash and air-dry my hair, it is very wavy (I think what hair experts would consider full of S-curves?), but it tends to look messy as the waves aren't a consistent form (my Mom used to say that uncombed long hair looked witch-y, so I may be too critical of the state of my uncombed hair). When I come or brush it, it still has body and a slight general wave, but tends to loose all the distinct different waves.

I've pin-curled and air-dried tendrils and they can stay with a pretty tight curl pretty much all day -- unless I comb the tendril.

I have uncolored, wavy, fairly-fine, shoulder-length hair.

What kind of hairbrush is best for my hair? I mostly have natural or copies-of-natural bristle brushes. I've tried one with little plastic globes on the end of little plastic bristles, but I think that one might yank out more hair.

What about combs? I used picks for a long time, but have been using plastic, close-together-teeth combs recently. Occasionally, I break the teeth on that type, though.
