Too much iron is definitely a problem if you have
hemochromatosis. It's a disease that affects people mostly of
celtic origin where your body keeps too much iron and its collection
starts to damage your organs. Many people do not even know they
have it (I was one of these). Even though I'm a woman of 30, too much
iron is still a problem.
Granted, it's not likely that you have it, I just say this as a
reminder that it's always a good idea to get checked out/ have
bloodwork done when you're messing with vitamins to make sure you
aren't overdoing or under-doing anything.

Prenatal vitamins basically have the same components as other vitamins--just more of certain ones (folic acid being an obvious one; but there are others).

I've been told by a few nutritionist that taking a prenatal vitamin when you're not pregnant is not safe for your body. I thought about doing it myself since I'm a vegetarian and I thought the extra nutrients would help but my nutritionist said that the excess iron in the vitamins could be too much since it's not going towards a growing child. Anyone else know if this is right?

I know too much iron is bad for males, but i didn't think that was true for females. I thought this was because things like pregnancy, and menstration cause you to lose your bodies iron supply.

The major difference between pregnancy vitamins and regular multivitamins is the price tag. Hair grows faster when you are pregnant whether you are taking prenatal vitamins or not. If you take prenatal vitamins (or any product, for that matter) and notice a growth spurt, you will attribute it to the vitamins, even though growth spurts are normal and related to things like seasons and hormones.

Anyone take these for hair growth? My hair grew like a weed when I was pregnant, but I don't know if it was due to the vitamins or due to the pregnancy itself. I picked up a bottle at the store the other day and started taking them. I'm sure my husband thinks I'm outof my mind. Anybody else on this or any other vitamin/supplement regimen?
