Well, at least in the U.S., you can't really get pinchbraids at a standard Afro braiding salon; most of the extensionists who offer that technique are trained by the Hairpolice. You can, however, get braided tracks and presumably microbraids there.

In the U.K., I assume it's the same deal (although I don't know for certain), except it seems like most of the UK pinchbraiders either learned it DIY, by modifying the Dome technique perhaps.

There are lots of UK pinchbraiders on Quinn's boards, so if you're looking for someone, you might want to post there. Rae might also have some suggestions.

:)

Yes, you can.  they call it invisibles though.  They do it at all the african brading salons.  The braids are tinier than the "pinch braid" method though.  They do them just like they do the micro braids but they don't braid down as far and they tie it off using the extension hair vs. adding string.

Here's a description of invisible braids.  You can do a search on the net for them.  Some people call Tree Braids Invisible braids but that's totally different.  So just be aware if you do a search.

"These are individual braids that are braided down a half inch and then secured. Plus, the client’s hair beyond the secured ends will be left loose along with the extensions.May take 3 – 5 hrs to create and will last 2 – 3 months ( with proper care and maintenance, ask your stylist)."

I think they may even be called Open Braids sometimes.  Also at the African Shops I've seen them do the entire head in invisibles so the braids are visible.  which I think defeats the purpose.  I've seen where they leave a little of the hairline out also though too.  You just have to tell them.

Here's a pic.

Yeah, when I said "microbraids" I was referring to those open-ended "individuals."

I'd never heard of actually using the extension hair to hold them in place, but I'm intirigued. They look beautiful. I'm wondering what the advantage is of using the string now..... :)
