All this pinchbraid talk has pushed me over the edge. I just made an appt with Serina at deadlyhair in Huntington Beach, CA for May 20th. It's the day after my last radiation treatment which is the day I can put my hair back in. WOOHOO!!!   Neither Serina nor the Hairpolice person she talked to (to clear it that I can bring my own hair) have heard of PH. She asked if I'd had PH pinchbraided before and I told her I hadn't, but plenty of you gals have so it's a-ok.

This is the second happiest day this year - just knowing I'll have hair again. May 20th will be the first!

She charges $430 with hair, $375 cuz I'm bringing my own hair. It's for 3/4 head.

What did you tip your stylist, Fina?

Great to hear, Rae! You know of course that if you still lived in MB, I'd go to you instead of her. Keepin' the allegiance with the board.

Aw Syren, you're a doll! I may move back to LA in a few years, and when I do, I'll be able to work on all you LA/OC girls!

That's great, Syren! I was just checking out that site the other day, and the photos are beautiful. (I think it's so funny, by the way, that the DIYers are turning the stylists on to PlastikHaar--which reminds me, I have to show Issac my rings next time I go there.) I usually tip $50; the service costs me $350. :)

Cheryl! I was wondering how your PH is holding up. I know you posted about your pinchbraids still holding on strong but not about your hair...how's it going?

whoops, sorry girl...just saw this..

i am definitely of the low maintenance camp with the PH and will say that it is doing great. I have blown the ends smooth probably 4 times so far in about 6 weeks...then either have worn it straight or curled it with flocked hot rollers (old school velvet ones - the kind that are a mix of sizes - i use all the sizes for nonuniform curls) with little brushing. today as a matter of fact at work i wore it down and 2 different people who haven't seen me in a while were like - wow your hair grows fast. they couldn't believe it wasn't my real hair?

i haven't posted more pics b/c i feel really jenny is so good at that..i will say i stay away from heat and really only wash my own hair and the ph maybe once a week now and let it air dry? the hair is holding up beautifully. i wash with a tea tree oil shampoo, use generic kerasilk conditioner followed by a fabric softener rinse and then the flasher spray or kerasilk (i was using the generic for a while and then got the real stuff - so much better!) and then i usually sleep with it in two pippy longstocking braids because i find it most comfortable and it keeps the wave up. i use the little paddle brush we discussed a while back in the am and in the pm and usually finger comb during the day.

overall i am so so happy i found this board, tried the PH, and went with pinchbraids...i really think you'll find the same! i'm getting my new install next monday...i cannot wait!

I paid $275 for a full head and I tipped her $85 because I was so SO amazed at the work!!

I CAN'T WAIT to go back and get it redone.  It would be the bargain of the century if I didn't have to pay that @#$* AIRFARE to get there!

But, as I said, I am absolutely THRILLED with these and am excited for the new install and the new 50  mm hair.

Hey all you CA girls, I am going to take the next Hairpolice class

Melissa said they will be having  a class again this summer and she will email me the dates as soon as it's scheduled.   I'll start saving for this because it's $1000 for the 3 day class.   I've been totally convinced by all the pinch braid wearers that this is a method I must learn!

LOL! Yup! And he's not too happy about it, either!
But seriously. DIY fusion is a piece of cake, no question, but it does some damage even if you're careful, etc...it's just the nature of the beast. No way around it. It's easy to do, inexpensive, blahblahblah...but for long term, rugged hair wear, I know that pinchbraids are the way to go. There's almost no downside to it. You can't argue with the longevity and safety to your own hair.

That's not to say that there can't be shrinkie/extentube add ins on the sides and stuff, but for the bulk of the hair, it's got to be pinchbraids.

To be honest, the most important thing to me is the styling! I can't cut my hair to save my life, and what separates the men from the boys (or women from the girls) is the styling! The layering, razoring, placement...I want to put that in the hands of a pro. I have NO hair training and it's obvious - when I try to style my own hair, it's a side show! The Bearded Lady, the Snake Man, and Syren, the Hair Freak.
