PH/Dome Update--Almost 7 Weeks!

Time flies when I'm not spending a fortune on human hair....

Anyway, here's my PlastikHaar/Dome combo after almost 7 weeks. I'm wearing it a bit straighter right now, which I actually like better than wavy on me (cause it matches my own texture better), though I usually opt for the waves because it makes the extensions "blend" better.

Here, it's just washed and air-dried. No products, no heat-styling, no steaming, no nothing. The last time I blew it dry was about 1 1/2 weeks ago. As you can see in the close up of the ends, there's a tiny bit of frizz, but nothing a bit of heat/steam couldn't fix, and after 7 weeks, I think it's holding up incredibly well.

Oh, yeah--I haven't used fabric softener for about a week, either. I've been very, very lazy and low-maintenance this time around.

Do you do your hair all on your own? That looks really nice, super natural. You wouldnt have a before pic? I would love to see how your hair looked before....how you did the layers and hid your own ends..is this with shrinkies, or you just fused it on...or used micro rings?

I want to try to do my own and not spend a fortune on having some salon do it...

Mocha: I think it's about 3 bags total; after the blending, even less probably, but then again, it's doubled over in a lot of places (pinchbraid style). I'm doing very little to it, which seems to be a better approach: washing the length only once to twice a week, using just a bit of diluted fabric softener in the shower (when I remember) and a bit after, using Dome Care and Bedhead Headrush (it's like Flasher) when I detangle, and mostly using a wide-tooth comb (with a large plastic brush and a boar's hair brush sometimes, too). I've blow-dried it about 4 times, maybe 5, total, and generally when I get out of the shower, I leave it till it's mostly dry, air-dry or blow it dry at the roots and a little at the length, then set it in hot rollers. That curl holds up for a few days, and then I might re-curl it after three days or so. I sleep with it in boinks or braids. And that's it, basically. The hair is holding up much better than last time, and I think that's the result of a few things: a different install (more abundant but smaller braids with fewer gaps), lots more layers and razoring, and my low-maintenance approach.

Missy: No, I get my hair done at Cyberparlor in NYC. They're pinchbraids. And my real hair is pretty easy to conceal with any extensions because it's so thin and fine and straight. Conealing the extensions is another story, hehe. Also, it's in horrible condition from previous damaging extensions jobs among other things, so it's all different lengths. I wish I had a before pic, because believe me, my hair sucks really badly.

Fina: I'm rocking this hair for a few more weeks, so I'll probably wear it for a full 10 before getting it redone.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm totally satisfied with PlastikHaar (and Dome, for that matter), and fully intend to stick with PH going forward. The only difficulties I have are the fact that the hair still gets somewhat piecey (although much better than last time) because it's strand by strand and I have so little real hair in the mix. I am seriously considering adding a few wefts into the mix, because I think it might fix that problem (we'll see). The other problem I have is with concealing the extensions, which is a whole 'nother saga.... But that hair itself is awesome.

Looks faboo. Less is more...absolutely. Wasn't 7 weeks the change
out point of your last install? This one's holding up much much better
but looks just as great in photos, imo.

Any recommends on steamers out there? Does it really make a
difference?

Also, describe the "blow out" of the ends. Warm dryer, hot, cool? Do
you brush while drying? Soft nobby bristles, boar? Whatcha usin'?

Think I'll invest in one of them there steamers. The velvet rollers
sometimes turn the haar a bit rough on the ends and I may be in
need of some TLC there pretty soon.

The haar is getting stunning reviews from the onlookers. I, myself,
remain torn. Love the length, the colors, the price. The styling is a
challenge to someone who's used to sticking a curling iron in there to
style around the face, etc. That's not the haar's fault because I knew
that going in. It's just not what I'm used to. I miss natural wave. I
miss it a lot. I know this haar is going to be stick straight very soon
and I'm not looking forward to it.

Tangling is a non-issue. To anyone out there who thinks this length is
impossible with synthetic -- it's not. I have found this to be easier to
deal with than most of the human hair I've tried.

Would I do it again? Most definitely. If it was thermofibre, came on a
weft at 30" length, blended, and kept a slight S wave and didn't have
a 2 month wait, I'd probably never look for anything else.

re: that WaWa. Oh no, this hair is beyond anything I've ever seen. It
can't be fixed. When I saw it, I was shocked. I was all, let's get that
out of there now...I cannot stand it. My friend took hold of the
knotted mass and said, "Oh no. I like it. It's like a loofah ball and I
use it in the shower." She proceeded to pretend she was scrubbing
her back with it. I'm glad she has a sense of humor about it because
I'm horrified. If I had charged for that, I'd totally give her her money
back.

PS: I have a HUGE Plastikhaar install happening on Tuesday. I have
the haar all tipped and ret ta go. It's another Kalika install in Vanille
and Satin Blond. So, any links about Plastikhaar care that I can print
up for my friend would be much appreciated. Isn't there a complete
care sheet on Plastikhaar somewhere? I couldn't find it.

Cool about the steamer, but if you need to smooth the ends in the interim, the blow-dryer works great.

I have to say, there are a few things I do differently than specified in the guidelines. First off, I do wash out the fabric softener and then maybe just spritz a bit in the hair, while wet, after I shower. In other words, I think you need to be careful not to use too much because it leaves a strange film on the hair and weighs it down. Also, I always wash warm (although it's probably not the best thing to do). And about the blow-drying, I agree that you wouldn't want to do it right away, but after two weeks or so the 50mm goes straight basically, so you might as well blow-dry it to smooth out the ends. I also don't only finger-comb because I don't think it's sufficient for detangling long hair, but maybe it's more important to do that with the wavier 28mm texture.

Sorry--I missed this question somehow. I have about 110 pinchbraids (that's my best guess, anyway), and the braids are only about 1/2 to 3/4 inch long and secured with string. I have no breakage from them at all. They don't go all the way up to my part, though--they're about 2 inches down, and those ones are especially small. This is an example of the more standard-size braids in the middle of my head:
 

Thanks jenny that helps. What do you pay for the service may I ask? I used to wear individual braids, about 150 of them, and have still, a year later, hair growing back from the breakage- inch long hair around my face...! DO you find the pinch braids itchy? I felt like I could never wash my head really good with them...maybe with your type of braids it is different. Thanks for the pic! Missy

Jenny, I had individuals with no band or string, they take some jumbo braid type hair, and just section your own and braid it is. Its really tight, that is why it caused all the breakage- but if not tight it would look bad, not be close to head and fall out= the ends are then heat sealed..taking them out was a nightmare lottsa tangles and ended up loosing more hair, when you would wash it clumps and clumps would fall out from the knotting. Looks awesome but I cant do that again! 5 yrs, no more....cant seem to find the next method for me!!! D oyou have alink for shrink links? it is not shrinkies?

That's too bad, Mer, but clip-on pieces are great, too--I love them. Have you tried to blow out the hair, Mer? It's really easy and it can make a big difference. :)
