Although I cant speak for everyone I'm pretty sure its ok not to wash it.Most people I think want to keep it looking as shiny as when they first get it for as long as possible.Especially since alot of hair is covered with silicone to make it look thaty way.All the hair I've had has been covered in silicone(Bss hair)and it always looks awsome out of the bag.But After the initial wash and thereafter it never looks the same.It still looks good but not nearly as pretty. And as far as the smell, the only hair I had that didnt smell good when washed was a $10 bag of Sally's sassy brand.

I agree with Longhairdreams, I think the coating they put on the hair to make it shiny only lasts for a few washes, so why waste one before installing.
If you buy natural hair bulk, that's another question, then you need to wash it and treat it for nits if necessary.

That would depend. IMO, I like to wash before install IF it is a partial/PB highlights install, otherwise it doesn't blend quite as well with my natural hair (the untrained eye would probably not notice though). My hair is more of a natural looking extra light blonde than the #613 (i.e. more ashy), so I like to wash the extension hair with Shimmerlights and condition it good. Another reason is sometimes the shiny extension hair can look out of place next to my own hair unless I have silicone products on it, so I just think they blend better if washed. However, for a full head I do not think it is necessary since most of your natural hair is "covered" anyways.

I usually like to wash and condition the wefts before I install them. By doing so, it's easier to cut the hair and blend it into the client's hair. Out of the bag, it's too stiff, especially in the case of body wave, where it comes curly then the curl falls when washed. I can get a much more precise cut and blend after it's washed.
