Has anyone had an allergic reaction to the shrinkies?

I welted (red and burning welts) on the nape of my neck (a couple on the side/top).  I had a reaction to surgical tape after a c-section so I'm wondering if it is the material (rubber, plastic)?

Needless to say....I took them out.  The areas then scabbed and healed quickly.

I used WAWA.....which ratted up so quickly that I was almost happy to take it out.

I just ordered from AMM shrinkies and new hair from PH because I refuse to give up.

I'm thinking about installing not to close to the scalp and trying to keep my head from sweating and maybe powder?  I think that me sweating and itching added to the reaction.

Another question....how much PH for a full install?

Thanks for all your vast knowledge........

how long are you doing wrt ow much PH?  are you going monochromatic?

balpark 3 bags but it depends ona lot of factors

have you wron extensions before?  because you can get those little scabs from pulling too tight.  and especially if you were super close and pulling and the heat wand and... mmm recipe for little scabs.  how long was everything in?

if you're allergic to something and you just keep using it, it will only get worse. use a different method.
also is there latex in shrinkies? latex allergies are common

Mocha - I ordered the winterblond, blond and vanille to mix.

This was my first time with extensions.  It was not because they were too tight, I don't think?

I'm gonna try again and see what happens.....maybe do a test run first.

-----only in for a week.....

If you think it's the shrinkies bugging your skin and not just the tension on your scalp, maybe you could try stringing some onto floss to make a bracelet and wearing that around for a few days to test for a reaction. Lot less hassle to slip a bracelet off if it starts to itch that to have to make it through the workday with an itchy head and do a hair uninstall, even just of a few trial streak. What a bummer though.

Shrinkies are polyolefin not latex....

The first week is when I get some problems from things being too tight.  I also burnt myself ina few places with my heat wand the first time out.

But if things were not improving byt he end of the first week that sounds problematic.  What did you use to tip?  that latex comment is quite relevant if you used al atex glue for pretipping.

If you have threee colors on order and plan on using them in equal proportions 1 bag each you should be okay.  But, often people find that they need two of their main color and half ish each of there others.  I just hought you should consider that.  But if you are at least splitting it into 24" lengths so you get two lengths per bag you should be fine.  that should get you around 230 tips.  (75-80 per bag).

The braclet idea sounds really smart.   I'd use some of them unshrunk and some of them shrunk probably...

It was a  reaction and not a burn or too tight.  It was welted and didn't pop up until about day 4 or 5.

I pretipped with LG at first....then with SuperBond which is Latex...which was the like the adhesive tape when I had a c-section....ahhhhh it all makes sense....So if I put super glue on them would it protect the glue from my scalp?

Is Aleene's latex?  No mention on the bottle.

I am gonna do the bracelet test too...what a great idea!

and Mocha...I will be splitting the PH since my hair has short layers in the back.  I had trouble blending the wawa and had to get it cut short to look right.....so I'm wanting darker and longer on the bottom row then working in the lighter - shorter towards my top.

Thanks again!

I'm  not sure super glue would provide enough of a barrier.  However.  if you cut your tips down so that they don't have any glue sticking out the bottom of the shrinkie (they should never stick out the top) that might help as well.  Do you know if it was LG or latex tips in the areas where you ahd the issues?  LG is not latex at all so it shouldn't give a latex reaction though you could certainly be allergic to polystyrene.

rememebr to blend within the tips as you move from one color to the enxt if they aren't really close in color to begin with (I'm not a blond and not at home with my color ring right now so I'm not sure how close those colors are...)  I can tell you a couple ways to do that if you haven't found the right links here yet...

I think latex sheds too much anyhow so between that and the reaction its NG!

No idea about Aleene's.

I have to say I prefer my tips when they are made of LG or witha glue gun and keratin.  Though ic an't say which keratin I liek best.  Probably the cheapest since its just tips...
